New Egg Shipping Damage?

So now that we're getting our BF and CM hardware, is anyone else concerned about the packaging of their shipments from new egg? I've got damage DOA HDDs from them before with just a small layer of bubble wrap which all the bubbles had popped, why I went else were for SDD this time.

I just got MB, PSU, ram, CPU, and optical shipment today. Frankly I'm little concerned, they crammed it all in a 12" x 12" x 14.7" box with NO padding at all other than a few large plastic bubbles on top. The MB manufacturer box thankfully has decent padding, and I'm assuming the seasonic PSU box, but they were both just sitting flush to the bottom of the box and their respective boxes are damaged. Optical was literally just in plastic bag, ram in less packaging than a button battery comes in.

If any of this stuff is DOA or breaks I'm boycotting new egg; the money saved is completely lost, plus huge hassel when you have to RMA, not worth it. Better just to spend to more to get reasonable shipping. Am I wrong?

*EDIT* to make matters worse, they managed to give the wrong packing list, I got a

off by 5 states and 5 items new egg, serouisly? Now I'm going to go have trouble using the MiR without packing list, company sucks now, I'm sorry.

The most important thing in packaging is that the items and boxes within the shipping box don't rattle around within it. Today I received a hard drive from Newegg and it was in its original box within a larger shipping box, with a half dozen air bags on top to fill the outer box. Should be fine. That's exactly how the last several hard drives that I received from Amazon were packaged.

I agree that something like a bare optical drive in an anti-static bag should probably be packaged better, but they're cheap and I've yet to see one arrive DOA.

Looks like the items came from a Texas warehouse. The only time I've had problems with NewEgg over the years are when they ship from Texas instead of California.

This box came from the normal Whittier, CA.

Am I over-reacting? Used to be standard shipping protocol to have some sort of layer between the inside of the shipping box and the sensitive electronic product, be it packing peanuts, air bubble sheet, crumbled up paper, ect. It's really disconcerting see how much UPS thrashed this box with no fragile or this side up labels on it. There was hardly anything at between the MB and whatever the box was being smashed into; almost no better than just a bare MB box with a UPS label on it. The bag on the optical isn't even anti-static, it's PE-HD open on one end.

You can really tell they're cutting a lot of corners on shipping to say the least.

No rebate is going to ask for a packing slip, anyway. They will want a printed copy of your order invoice.

I don't think its just newegg. I have ordered quite a few things from amazon and newegg the past couple weeks. When they get busy with orders the packing people don't really seem to care how well something is packed. My amazon orders have come with too little or no packing and just sliding around in a box. Newegg and amazon have been about the same packing wise except I think newegg cheaped out really bad on the projector I ordered.

I bought a projector from newegg and they put the projector in a box the exact same size as the projector box. Well something put a hole in the shipping box and then the projector box because there was no space between the two boxes. I think this misaligned something in the projector because one side of the screen was much darker than the other. I got it replaced and newegg just slapped a shipping label on the product box and shipped it (so no packing box at all). So far it is working no issues but I wasn't too happy to see it arrive like that when the last one seemed to be damaged from shipping with not enough packaging.

I've been ordering and building PCs since 97, for businesses and personal use. Parts boxes sitting in the bottom of the shipping box has been standard practice the whole time. I used to get tons of boxes with peanuts in them, now it is mostly air bags which do a pretty shit job anyway. I've gotten well packed and poorly packed boxes from every major online reseller. I've received more blatantly used parts than I've received parts damaged in shipping. Parts packaging is designed to be shipped, it should protect the product in almost all normal shipping deliveries.

When you get stuff like $20 optical drives they just don't care and would put more effort into protecting them if more actually broke during shipping.

Well it asks for a receipt or packing list. Meaning now I have to print the receipt instead of just using the packing list as intended. I just hope my packing list that someone else got doesn't have sensitive information on it.

You can print invoices from your Newegg account page.

So far I haven't had any issues with items I've ordered from Amazon over the past month. (or at all really)

Haven't bought anything from Newegg in a while though.
