Well i just placed the order at newegg this morning for the last bit of my new system. got a E6750..i cant wait till next week to have it all together..man do i hate to wait though
How is the stock cooler on the intel..I was going to order one but I figure I wouldnt do any overclock to start since its a massive jump in speed to begin with. if i wanted to though does it do well or should I wait for a new cooler before OC
I got Abit IP35-e
E6750
BFG 8800GT
4gig G.skill DDR2 800
Should be an awesome increase to my current AMD3000 64,1gig DDR400, 6800GT

Intel HSF is sufficient.
Games are graphics card limited. I'm not sure over clocking CPU really brings much real world improvements.

Most desktop applications for just about any speed Core2 will blast through. Overclocking would speed up media encoding, compression though.

well then i guess I wont worry about OC anytime soon.
I cant wait to get all this..Finally gonna be able to play GOW maxed and crysis nice and pretty.

i have the same system at the min i am a 3500Mhz but my ram is holding me back if i was you i would get some 1066Mhz ram for the same price

I actually placed an order for that cpu last night also! Congrats and hope all goes well.

I have that CPU, and am very happy with my decision. Everything is much faster. I had no issues with my build. I think you will be happy. I toiled over the decision of Q6600 or E6850. In the end I am very happy with my E6750. I like to leave my self a little room to upgrade next year when I notice things getting a little slow. Good luck with your build.

yea i almost was dead set on teh Q6600 but then I realized I wouldnt ever take advantge of the quad as of now.
This is my first Intel machine since my pentium 75 way back in the day

i had a similar old system as you did OP and i built a new e6750/ds3r/2gb ram/8800gt and am very pleased with it.. i am still using the stock intel HSF and it has performed fine with no problems, once i get more money together i will buy a better HSF and try to OC it a bit..

I was in exactly the same boat. In fact, I even ordered the Q6600 only to cancel it and order the E6750. I figured I'd get better game performance and overclocking with less power consumption.

I also ordered the Tuniq Tower that I will lap to like 2000 grit.

Now I have to decide on a motherboard. Initially I ordered the Abit 680i SLI baord, but have heard so many bad things about 680i that I calncelled it.

Maybe I will buy the Abit P35. Heard a lot of good things and cheap.

abit ip35-e running 475x8 at 3.8ghz e6750 at 1.56vcore
Runs well with great stability.
It do 4ghz but requires 1.67vcore then ;)

I got the cpu when upgrading from my 1 year old e6600 which didnt clocked well.
This one do clock much better and are a great budget rig.

If someone want to go quad I recomend the abit ip35-Pro model since it has more stable circuits for quad clocking.
Saw a test where the difference was around 200mhz between dual and quad klock.

For budget, the abit ip35-e is a nice deal.

I also bought an E6750 last week :) was able to take advantage of a combo deal and get it with 2x1GB Corsair 4-4-4-12 dhx. -$50 instant combo discount & -$40 mir for the ram... which made the ram effectively free w/ the CPU :D

Planning to get: P35-DS3R, 520hx ps, and an 8800gt... but need to save up some moneys before i do so :(
