I finally got all the parts I needed to get my semi budget C2D running decent.

Gigabyte 965P-DS3
Core 2 Duo E6400
2x 512 Cirsaur XMS2 5400
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
2x 250GB WD SATA Drives *
EVGA 7900GT *
Samsung DVD-RW *

*= From old system

I have it OC'd stable to 3.0Ghz (375x8) right now. I can't really get over that, but I think I may be ram limited (already running 667mhz ram at 750).

I'm really happy with it but I would like to get it a bit cooler (43c idle 60c dual Orthos with the case open).

It's great to watch it rip through encoding with x264 compared to my X2 3800+ (non oc'd due to a crappy mobo).

nice OC once I get my system I'm hoping it will OC a bit, anyways you should be able to get half decent cooler for under $50 (don't quote me on that) :)

Nice overclock so far. Although, It doesn't make sense to me why you would buy a badass video card/processor and bottleneck yourself with only 1gig of ram(Instead of 2gig).

Have you tried jumping to 400FSB?

as you go higher from 333, it gets harder & harder on the Northbridge.

At 400FSB, the NB FSB strap is reset and its easier on everything again.
So if you were trying to gradually work your way up, you might be hitting a NB / FSB wall, that will disappear at 400FSB. (called the "FSB hole")

Try loosening the timings on your ram to like 5-6-6-18, set FSB to 400, etc... and try that.

New memory is coming soon (next paycheck or so). I couldn't afford to get 2GB of the good stuff when buying the new mobo/cpu.

I tried 400fsb and it would not get past POSTing. The DS3 only lets me set the memory at 1:1 and 750 is about as far as it will go.

The Freezer 7 Pro is only because the store didn't have anything better. I need to fix the wiring in my case and put maybe a few more fans in because other than the drives listed I have 4x400GB Segate IDE's on a Promise controller and a 300GB Segate IDE chained with the DVD.

I hate to thread jack, but this is good info. I never new that. So since im at 458FSB on my DS3, my northbridge isnt being stressed as bad as I thought uh?

So far this is a nice performance increase over my x2 3800+ a movie that would of taken 3+hr's on my stock speed 3800+ finished in 2h!

What are you using to read your temps? I have a 6400 and a ds3 with a scythe infinity on it and getting 40c idle and 60c dual prime on stock speeds so ive been scared to O/C it. Those temps are from speedfan btw.

Read this:

It helps explain why people have FSB walls / problems around certain clocks < 400, but then at 400FSB all is good again for a while.

I also believe when the ram is at a speed less than 800, there is some type of DDR667 ram strap which run the ram at too tight of timings for many sticks, but if you change the FSB or ram ratio to a point where the ram speed is 800+ things run more stable.

Intel Thermal Analysis Tool. Google Intel TAT and you will find it.

at 375 my memory timings are showing pretty loose (I guess, I really don't know the meaning of the timings).
As shown in CPU-Z
5-6-6-18 @ 375

It also shows in the Timings Table
4-4-4-12-15 @ 266
5-5-5-15-19 @ 333

This memory is just to hole me till I get 2 GB of good memory.

I guess my ram may not be my limiting factor...

I was able to run the computer stable last night at 7x425 and I stressed the ram and it was fine. I tried 8x400 and I can't get it stable even at 1.4v. Should I play with the chipset voltage too?

I have it at 375x8 right now with the memory at 3:4....
