New dual core cpu keeps stuttering.

I recently upgraded from a system that never had any stuttering problems and less specs (AMD 3700, 2GB RAM, 6800 video card, and biostar MB) to the following:

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L
Intel E4500 dual core
4GB RAM
8800GTS video card

I first noticed issues when having Winamp play and I type. On a 3 minute song it would at least stutter once, usually twice though. Then I started noticing it when playing AVI files and playing WOW. Videos would stutter 2-3 times and if I was playing WOW it randomly stutters, though not as much as videos and mp3's.


When I built the system the first thing I did after the clean install of XP SP2 was to install the drivers from the motherboard CD as to install chipset drivers etc. I've downloaded the newest audio drive from Gigabyte thinking that would solve the winamp issue - it didn't. I've downloaded the newest nVidia video drivers as well, no improvement.

I've never had these problems on my old system and I normally had WOW, thunderbird and firefox open all at once and the computer handled it with ease.

Any suggestions?
 
I would say that you should do your best to try to test each component individually to see if there are any strange results, because it looks like your everything. So you did a clean install, try downloading the newest drivers from the internet as the driver CD can get outdated awful fast.

Stutter sounds odd though, like a skipping CD????
 
You will need to send the CPU to special language classes to remove the stuttering. LOL

It may be a memory issue too.

Is this machine OC'ed?
 
I noticed this happening on my previous rebuild and did some research on Winamp's forum. Lots of people were having this problem. Winamp said you should upgrade to the newest version. You know what I did? I rebuilt my machine as that didn't work. Of course, I had other problems too, so I had to reinstall Windows.
 
Did you install the Dual-Core patches/updates ?

There used to be a sticky on this whole dual-core issue with stuttering.
 
sorry guys been out of town for the last few days... however the problem still exists.

Protias, that thread only seems to be fixes for winamp at best, but won't effect how games or movies are played on the computer.
 
Oh, I didn't see the part where you had problems with your games too.

I'm out of ideas why everything would be skipping. The only way to really pinpoint it would be to test each individual part of your computer. If everything still works fine, you may just need to reinstall Windows. :(

I'm assembling a Giga X48 board today when I get home, so hope I don't have these issues.
 
I had some stuttering problems with a new build, like you say you have. What I did was reinstall the basic winXP and noticed that I didn't have it anymore. But when I added more software etc, SP2 I would have it.

What the problem was I was actually getting a virus from a website that I would frequently visit. This gave me the stuttering problems, I was not able to remove the virus.

What I would recommend is that you install just windows XP and nothing else and see if you have any problems, then keep adding software until you have it again.LIke add WIndows XP, then add WINAMP.

Most likely its a software problem, you just have to troubleshoot and figure it out.
