 I just dont get it.
The last 3 or 4 hard drives I put into the computer keeps having the smart go down. This new 200gb Seagate has dropped from 100% at install to 55% within a few minutes. The drives do seem to function just fine though. Any ideas why it would do this?

Also, does anyone know if an ECS P4VXASD2+ VIA northbridge of P4X333 southbridge of VT8235.
Im running Win2k on it and according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305098/EN-US/ I have it showing all 185 gigs so it does mean its supported then right? (im not sure if it just shows that because of some hacks or something that I have enabled)

This is a wild shot but my buddy's computer beeps everytime you get a wireless/cell phone by the hard drive (SATA), it could be related to that. I also heard of someone who had their tower inbetween floor standing speakers-bad idea, especially for any hard drive, magnetic related damage. Subwoofer of great magnitudes *cough-my z5500s 10'' sub cough* can also produce large magnetic fields, even says on the box when you get them. Other than that thats about all I have. Are the drives actually failing that fast or just S.M.A.R.T. messed up?

So far its only smart that goes down. The old one I have in there a 80gb WD is about 6 months old and its at 69%. So far everything works just great and well I could ignore it but I dont like seeing it like that and as far as I know, SMART going down is not something reversable (as in change to make it go back up to 100%)

Maybe this is just one of those times where I should stick a piece of tape on the check engine light.

Any other ideas on why it may go down like that?

I dont have a huge magnet around it :)

Today, the one week old seagate is down to 43%

I dont get it...
My last 4 hard drives have dropped like that.

oh crap its assplat!!!

ive had a similar problem like that with my seagate drive that i used for a frnd's build, that crap's fitness bar level just went down to half for some odd reason...

its the same on my 160gig Seagate.

of my many other HD's this is the onlyone showing like 50% of the health bar full. Not sur why, but its weird, it seems it happens on seagates maybe?

The 120 GB Samsung drive in my main system has this too, but the 120 GB Maxtor doesn't. Weird.

The 40GB WD I have in my machine here at work reports 43% as well. I've noticed on several machines that speedfan reports ~50% or less, so I've always ignored it.

The primary WD80gig hdd is at 69% and has stuck there for abotu 6 months

Computer #1 and computer #2 in sig both show the SMART at 100% so it just concerns me when it does that. If there are so many here that conclude that Speefan incorrrectly decides on this stuff, I shall ignore too
