Hiya
I purchased a WD 80gig 7200 8mb cache from frys yesterday to replace a kinda dead ancient drive.
As you can see from the attachment below, it already considers the drive at 86% health.
I did try to clone my old drive but it never finished copying...did I copy bad data into the drive and make smart think its a faulty drive?

 New western digitial SMART.. aagh.. I like WD drives I dont know if I trust smart but it has worked for me before, please advise.

Wow, just downloaded the app - never knew about it before, thanks.

But yea, I bought a 250gig maxtor drive from Fry's last week and they shipped it in a single box without padding - no it wasn't DOA - but yes I was mad when I opened the box. I don't even want to know the long term affects this might have on the drive.

Maxtor? dont they come in the box with two of those funny plastic things on each side protecting the drive? Top and bottom.
WD comes in a plastic box (the ones with sharp sharp edges) and 2 of those plastic protection things on each end.

My previous drives were packed liek that and were fine but this one oddly shows smart errors already. :( Really dont want to take it back but I just might have to.

STILL.. think its ok?

Can someone please take a look at the data and tell me if its taken damage already and thus should be returned or is it simply SMART being dumb?

make backups now before you lose anything. then keep up to date. if the drive dies you have a warranty for a reason, and backups for a reason. i know it would suck to have to wait a week, but if you're that worried about it rma it now. they might not like it if you keep it a year and then rma it.

I have the exact same hard drive and it shows the same Warn values in the same places. Mine are marked OK in the same places, too. I'd say its normal.

Even though our values are nearly identical, it says mine is 70% fitness even though it's new. I wouldn't be too concerned with Speedfan's SMART readings.

Okay
Its just that my WD 160 has been running in my computer for about a year now and it shows everything as perfect and fitness/performance is both at 100%

I'm going to be setting up this same drive on another system in a few days, so maybe I'll get Speedfan's take on that too and let you know.

Not to hijack but my seagate has its fitness at just under 50%, anything to be worried about?

Humm might be that psu..
After it dropped to 83% I decided to make an image of the drive on my hd and exchange it for another WD80 ill see how this works.

^
Im not sure how everyone else's experience with SMART has been but I have unfortunately found it to be reliable. Both my 2.6gig fujitsu and 80gig Segate were down to abotu 50% and I was never able to clone them to my new drive... they were just too corrupted or something. My segate is now at abotu 13% the fujitsu is at abotu 26% they barely read anything now.

Okay this is the third hd, its the power supply
if i stick it in a computer with a good psu will the stats go back up?
