New Desktop Speakers

Hello everyone,

I currently have these really old speakers that came with my Dell desktop about 10 years ago. They still work, but I think it's time to get some new ones. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've been mainly looking at Logitech ones only because I have bought so much stuff from them in the past, looking for something around $100 or less, it would be nice to hook up the ipod but not necessary. I use my desktop to play movies, tv shows and some light gaming.

for $119 on amazon you can get the M-audio 40AV

these are the best speakers in this price range.

If you care at all about audio quality/fullness/completeness, stay away from Logitech.
 
i second the maudio av40's.just got them and set them up.they sound amazing for the money.
 
yea i stacked them on the styrofoam they came packaged in cuz i dont have money for the stands haha.but yea there ear level.
 
they sound awesome for games. the are really detailed so sometimes you hear the faults in music or sounds like compresion in a mp3 or ifthe screwed up audio in a game or something

Well, the M-Audio's are studio monitors - made to find faults in audio. Probably still the best bet for ~$120.

the games i'm playing right now or are into at the moment are....

Dragon age : The musical score sounds amazing on the 40avs i noticed a difference right away.

Left 4 Dead 2 : great game much better than L4D1 I noticed the crispness of the audio in the opening movie squence. The sound is much more life like clear detail accurate. I hear little details and sounds in the game i didnt hear with other speakers.

Grid sounds good engine sounds great. The thing i like too about the 40AV is that they are not overly bassy or try to add boomy bass to the sound. Even with the bass boost on it just tries to give you a lower note without it sounding too boomy.

I think i would best describe these speakers as Accurate very accurate in the sound it reproduces. That was what i was trying to say i guess when i said the speakers will show the faults in sounds and music.

I am getting a new sound card tommrow in the mail. The Forte 7.1 from microcenter. Iam coming from a Soundblaster X-fi fatality xtreme gamer pci card. Which i guess is ok
but i hear the forte is a much better sounding card. I think for $120 dollars this is the best speaker set out there. I think the next step up from these your looking to spending like $200 to $350 or more for the next set. Either the m-audio BX5a deluxes or Audioengine A5's . However at some retail guitar center stores they are selling the M-audio LX4 2.1 set for $149.99 which i guess is a steal since it retails for like $350 or $399.
I think the next thing for me if i want to go farther is adding a sub to the 40Av's
 
i hear the m-audio av40's are better than the audioengines a2's, but the a2's have bigger bass...
if i were to go up buy spending around 300+ i would just endup getting some real speakers and a reciever
for now tho i cant wait to get the av40's

How big are those M-Audio's? I was planning to put them on my tiny desk, but I don't want it to look cluttered.
