Happy new year. Looking to build a new desktop, appreciate any advice.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Development, running VMs, watching HD video/DVR, web browsing + other general desktop usage. Maybe I'll play Portal one day but that's about it for gaming.

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$1000ish. I'm flexible but no reason to overspend.

3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
US, WA

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU, motherboard, PSU, memory, boot drive, case, optical drive (Blu-ray reader/DVD burner)

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I have a 2TB WD green hard drive and an HD5450 lying around that I'll probably throw in. Just bought an HDHomeRun. Also planning on taking the sound card out of my old machine, an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum (PCI card + 5.25" front panel).

6) Will you be overclocking?
Probably not at first, but maybe some light overclocking later.

7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
1920x1200, Dell 2405FPW. Might want to get a second and/or larger monitor down the line. Also plan on hooking this up to an HDTV (1080p).

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Planning on buying basically as soon as I decide on the parts. No real urgency but ideally I'll build in the next couple weeks.

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? etc.
Definitely want USB 3.0 and SATA III. Would like onboard video to leverage the IGP/enable multi-monitor expansion. eSATA is nice to have but not necessary, and firewire is also nice but should be covered by the sound card.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yes, Win7 Ultimate 64

Would really like 16GB memory because I tend to keep a lot of stuff open and memory has always seemed to be my bottleneck.

Thanks in advance!

Can you hold off until next week? NewEgg will release some new combo deals and other specials within the next few days.

Unless you need Firewire that badly, I would suggest that you try out the onboard sound before you consider reusing the Audigy 2 ZS. Today's onboard sound cards perform at least as well as that particular card.

Yeah I can wait a week. Good to know about the sound card... I have some Firewire drives still and having the front panel is nice, but if the quality's no better it may not be worth it.
