new dell systems need something cheaper better?

well our boses all got the new dell xps systems with big flat panels...
$3300 a pop....DAMN

so they decided to buy the rest of us a computer.
I looked at the 8400..3.2G 640 processor 1 gig ddr2 memory...all the other stuff
and a 19" flat panel 1905fp....it runs about $2000

all we can buy is dell so I have to ask...

this system sound ok?

good monitor?

we also need some $1000 models but not celerons
I looked but most sound like junk....shared memory? wthell is that

any dell experts out here give me a hand?

They're good systems. But knowing exactly what you use them for would help too -- shared memory is fine (as much as I hate to say it) for many applications.

BTW, Shared memory is where the onboard video uses a portion of your system memory.
 
ok most of these(5) will be used for memory hogs such as

XP (LOL)
Office XP
----
SAS
SPSS
Splus
stata
LOTS OF MATH COMPUTATIONS

....so they need at least a gig of memory

fast processor

no games or graphic design

good size displays

right now most are upgrading from a p4 1.4G with 512m memory
dual 40 gig ata100 drives

it runs everything fine but on big jobs it takes a while

the others will be used mainly for email...officexp ....bejeweled
you know secretary stuff. :)

Lower end Dell with IGP would have been just fine. XPS is enornous overkill for apps listed.
