New database server. We are on ANOTHER new database server today that has been running stable since about 2am without any crashes. Keep your fingers crossed. :)

So far so good. Thanks for the [H]ard work!

Edit: And everything seems soooo snappy.

Are you guys having hardware problems or more hosting related problems?

In the market for a new co-location center? Give me a holla.

Glad to be able to surf the forum again with no errors :)

Did you replace the hardware or just reload the software(again).

Either way what are you running now hardware and software wise?

Once we figure out the exact issue, which I am now starting to think is an 8 core compatibility issue (still guessing, but we have ruled out a lot of things), we will pull the main forum database to the new Dell (8 way) server, set up this current Dell (4 way) server to handle searches and live replication. That was we will have a 100% redundant forum setup that we have never had before.

Its a black box with a Dell logo on the front.....and actually is WAS in the previous pictures. You aint missing anything.

*Ahem* this thread is useless without pics

Maybe another article about the racks you have setup with the Planet like the one from a while back?

pretty please? :D

i thought they moved away from the planet... something about them being asshats... i dunno, could be worng...

(if im worng dont quote that and ill remove it as to not stir the pot)

If it helps, I can say I haven't experienced any issues since you moved to the new server.

Maybe it was one of those dreaded "defective replacement" problems?

No crashes at all this weekend on this particular server. The search engine is running on this box as well now.

We will be working now to pinpoint the reason for the crashes on the other server.

If you are thinking it had something to do with 8 cores why not pull one of the procs out?

Well, the issue is that the software ran for a month on 8 cores without any issues, so I don't think it is that, but I just don't know. We will be working again to figure it out. We had a drive go offline in a RAID 1 array around the time of the big crash. Should have been no issue, and we reinstalled software etc. We are now in the process of low level formatting all the drives in that box and running checks on them. One rock at a time. If we still have the issues upon reinstall, we are going to start shutting cores off. Friggin wild goose chase bro.

hmm.. i cant get past that this feels like a ram issue, or a bus issue..From what your saying, it sounds like a southbridge overheat or something.

raid 10 stripe right (1+0)??? seperate controller card or onboard?

and just because... did you memtest it ???

Can't say I have not shared some of the same concerns on RAM. I am scheduled to go down to the colo and put the RST card on it this week and run some stability loops.

Raid is just mirrors, PERC 5 raid controller.

And the thing has literally about 120CFM running through it, I dont think heat is an issue. The Dell thermals are over the top.
