New CPU or New CPU+Mobo?

So I am planning to upgrade to the new R290s over the course of the next few months. The reason for the wait is I plan on upgrading major system parts in order to maximize the longevity of the system. With that being said I am wondering if I should upgrade my motherboard and CPU to a newer platform or if I would be fine just getting a i7-970 or above?
I really like the idea of keeping my system intact but I also want new features that are in more modern board (newer BIOS etc.).
So what are your thoughts.

No I live in northern Florida and I do not know of any good computer retail stores.
That deal is very attractive though.

How many game do you play that don't multithread well?

I find that the Turbo on Ivy Bridge and up is a lot more effective than in the original i-cores.
