Hi,

I have an Asus P6T and i7920 currently.

I am wanting to upgrade both. I'll be using it for gaming, music production and video editing of hi def footage.

I would like to see a noticeable increase on performance when video editing.

My budget is around $500-600 for both.

It must have firewire, ddr3 mem slots (for 16gb I have) and for audio the bios must be able to disable the onboard FireWire controller (I have Texas instruments sata card)..

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
_Luca

If your board supports 1366 Xeon then try one of the 6 cores out as you can get a X5650 for like $75..

I'm running a X5660 at 4.26Ghz all 6 cores /12t but is there a benchmark we (Xeon owners) could run to give you an idea of what $75buxs buys..

I agree with fanboy....these xeon hexa cores are one heck of an upgrade for the money and most of us are good till x99 setups become bargain bin prices....you could expect 30-50% more performance depending on your current overclock. Take my word for it, you be plenty happy with a Xeon 5670 in that board as its the same board im using. With a halfway decent heatsink 4200mhz on 6 cores is easily done.

Put the money saved in a new 970/980 nvidia video card and your more than set.:)

agree with a Xeon X56x0 the Asus P6T its a great board and you should not have any issue with a xeon chip like that.. its the fastest and cheapest upgrade you only have to swap CPU and done, reuse all what you have..

Holy crap that's a great idea!! This is exactly why I come here :D

Thanks chaps :)

Ok so the Xeon hexa cores are proper difficult to find here in Australia.

What about the 2700k or that entire range of CPUs?

Thoughts?

IDK about how are prices in Australia in reference to USA but with that budget you can Buy a 4790K and any motherboard of your preference and still will have some money left.. for example

4790K 330$
Asus Z97-A 140$

and you can reuse your other components..

Yeah I seen that one on ebay and I want its just down the road from me but I don't have cash until the 15th!! So annoying..

Might get one shipped then.. $205 is pretty sweet and I know my P6t works with all my peripherals so I do prefer the Xeon idea..

contact the seller...he if like me would hold it for you....problem solved...4200mhz min overclock with perfectly safe voltage info thats to all parties who contributed to the thread....mostly zoson.......but he moving on to x99 soon and can gives us before and after results for the next couple years:D

Looking at this the X5650 seems to be the sweet spot for $70!! (Around $100 here). The X5670 is so appealing though :D That score and for $200 Australian...

I believe the xenon 5660 will achieve the same clocks as 5675 if you can save a feew bucks if your shooting for 4.200mhz.....4.4 is possible but not guarantee so say 50/50 chance it might be possibly......so thats how it is if your want factory stability ...best of luck to you:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

take the money saved and buy a Geforce 980......and you'l be hanging with even the newest games....this i promise you:D You'l have a five your old system thast beats brand new ones no problem.....i7-2600 would be a side grade at best

It will go 4.2 on 1.28 volt..

Contacted the eBay seller. Saving me a 5670 until October 15!! 4.2 @ 1.28 sounds perfect :D

What software is good to give graphic representation of CPU, GPU, system benchmarks before and after my new Xeon 5670 rolls up?
