Been waiting for a sign and I finally got it last night after my computer mobo died. Placed my order in with the egg and I'm gonna get my new Intel Core i7 build!

Ordered:
CPU - Intel Core i7 920:D
Ram - CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB DDR3 1600
Mobo - ASUS P6X58D Premium

Reusing:
PSU - Enermax Liberty 620W
GPU - XFX Radeon 5770
Hard drives - 4 - WD 1TB / 1 - WD 400 GB
Monitor - Dell 30" 3007WFP

Why? I need more cores for encoding and vmware

I'll get more ram later down the road but 6GB will do for me now. I also plan on getting 3 24" LCD's for my eye-finity setup.

Why the Dominator RAM? You could have gone with the cheaper XMS3 series RAM for similar performance.

How old is the Liberty 620W PSU? Which of those five drives is the OS HDD? Are the 1TB HDDs Caviar Blues or Caviar Blacks?

I am going to overclock and I wanted a good quality ram for that. I also like the heatsink spreaders they use. In the past I have been burned by going with cheap RAM =\

Will install OS on the 400GB and the rest are all 1TB caviar blacks for storage/ripping space.

The PSU is 2 years old. Still works great.

Interesting that you spent the money for the x58 and then cheaped out on a video card. You would have gotten more performance out of building a p55 based system and a 5850.

Low voltage RAM is better for overclocking than low latency RAM. The Corsair Dominator RAM runs at 1.65V, which is the limit that Intel set for safe operation with its processors. The "entry level" G.Skill RAM, in comparison, runs at 1.5V. But this is simply nitpicking, as you've already made the purchase.

Do you know that the 1TB Caviar Blacks are faster (in most benchmarks) than the 400GB drive?

I'm not a hardcore gamer as much as I use to be and the 5850's were out of stock when I purchased my 5770. The 5770 was silent, power efficient and less heat then my 4890 which sounded like a jet playing games like Left 4 Dead.

I went with the core i7 1366 socket based chips because it really suit my needs (vmware, encoding) more then 1156.

Installing the OS on one of the cavblacks would be a better choice than the 400GB.
