Hi,

My CPU fan is dying on my and I am looking to upgrade as well as start to overclock. I am wondering what CPU Fan should I get? My system is:

Asus M2r32-MPV
AMD64 X2 4600+
4GB 6400 ram
650W PSU (soon to be a 850W)
8800GT (OC'd)

If you need anymore information let me know

Kinda depends on your case size, but for the normal ATX case, the best coolers out there are

Tuniq Tower 120
Thermal Right Ultra Extreme 120

but they are both pretty big. I also have a Zalman CNPS7500 cooler, and it keeps my 2.8ghz Opteron 165 really kool at 1.5v. Idles at about 26 degree's and loads at about 50.

So this leads me to a question (sorry for thread jack)

Why does my 90nm Opteron 165 run cooler at 1.5v, then my 45nm E8400 did at 1.4v?

I have a Silverstone TJ-01... I have the room for it. Thanks, any other suggestions?

  • Xigmatek HDT-S1283 is the new price/performance favorite. Included 120mm fan, easily replaced.
  • ZEROTherm Nirvana 120 performs well. Included blue LED fan, not easily replaced.
  • Thermalright Ultima 90 is a smaller tower with lots of heatpipes. Good if you don't like wider heatsink-tower designs. Doesn't include a fan.
^^^ (arranged in order of effectiveness, top to bottom)

Tuniq Tower's about the same as an Ultima 90 but is MUCH larger.
Best heatsink out there is either the IFX-14 beast from Thermalright (huge/expensive) or the Thermalright True 120 Extreme (mentioned previously, fairly expensive).

The problem with those are that they are quite tall. The Xigmatek is about 1cm too big for my case. So I need something shorter. The other two I have not been able to find a supplier in Canada for.

AC Freezer 64 Pro would work.

I got the AC Freezer installed and am seeing temps of around 41C down from 55C. However, on bootup I am getting a CPU Fan Error, it just asks to press F1 to continue and everything seems fine. I dont know what is causing it... any ideas? Also only temps will show up in Speedfan 4.33.
