i am upgrading from antec tru power 550watt because dfi will not support nf4 sli/ultra series without a native 24 pin psu, also because i have had 2 or 3 issues that were power related. has anyone had experience with the new coolermaster real power 550? they claim a max of 48amps on the 3 12v rails, and finished near top in efficiency in a recent tom's hardware article. i was looking to spend between $100 - $130, at least 500 watts, native 24 pin power cable, multi 12v rails, at least 3-4 sata connectors. i have no plans to go to sli, but you know how quick this can change.
venice air cooled 92mm h.o. fan
ultra d
4 sata drives
2 optical drives
floppy
4x80mm fans
2x512mb ram (low voltage)
x850xt
tv tuner
wfi card

i need to power that, with good headroom. thanx

Wow, three beefy +12V rails, that's a lot of headroom.

The Real Power 450W is built for Coolermaster by ACBel Polytech, and they're known for making very high-efficiency power supplies. If the new 550W unit is any indication, it should just continue the trend of high-efficiency units from ACBel. My old IBM Aptiva comes with a 95W ACBel unit, it runs very cool and quiet considering it was originally the only source of case ventilation in that box. Rubycon caps all throughout was a definite surprise to me, seeing how they make some of the best caps in the world.

I wouldn't have a problem recommending that.

thanx man. in the absence of negative comments(googled it also), i am ordering this.

Loved my old 450W CM, but sold it because the 22A split-rail couldn't power my A64 and 6800. I definitely recommend this new one, although I'm curious how the triple rail splits the load. Duals are split between motherboard/CPU and everything else, IIRC, so does this one have two independent Molex chains for two rails?

I dont know where you got 48Amps from, but you might want to check up on the PSU abit more, because it has 2 12Amp rails and one 6A rail. Well, unless your trying to tell me 12+12+6 is 48, then i think wherever you got 48 from is wrong (and i got mine from the coolermaster site)

Lets just point out too, dual/triple rails arent automaticly better than a large single rail. There are advantages to dual (or higher) rails, but only if the rails have enough amps. 12A rails are weedy at best.

I'd get a TP 2.0 over that CM anyday.

EDIT: Oh i see, you looked at the 'peak' numbers for the 48Amps. Peak numbers are pretty useless

Most PSU manufacturers only list the peak numbers, as far as I know...
