I would definately go with the second setup over the first.

good choice on the NForce 3 250 instead of the 150. That thing sucked

Athlon 64 3200 w/ 1MB lvl2 cache = clawhammer core = very good

The Raptor is a SATA HD.

Install your OS here and be amazed at the speed.
 
Ditch the Z-640s and spend that money on a good set of headphones. The Z-640s are yucky.
 
Yes,

The Raptor HD only comes in the SATA flavor. If you install the OS on that drive instead of the IDE drive, you will see some signifigant speed increases because of the insanely low latencies and high data rate of the drive.

get one Raptor, and spend the money you would WASTE on another raptor in Raid 0 for for a large storage drive.
 
that mobo is crap, the agp/pci busses arent locked get the gigabyte board or the epox, get a liteon 812s, id get the geil value pc3200, it does 2-3-3-6 and only cost 85 bucks at newegg, definitely keep that 3200+ newcastle, its clocked the same as the 3400+ just half the cache. and get a good heatsink while youre at it

The latter is exactly what I am running right now. Only in my case, my single Raptor is a 74GB model, and my current storage drive is the same 120GB WD SE model that I had been using as my main system drive on my various AMD systems for over a year.

Do not rely on questionable reviews for your knowledge. When you setup a raid 0 configuration and then go back to a single drive solution, the difference is quite noticeable.

Here is a HDTach screenshot that was taken while I was downloading and with antivirus and most of my other apps on.

These are not raptor drives, if they were the results would be even better.

Boot time is much faster.
Programs launch much faster.
Installation of programs take much less time.
Game load times are reduced by a huge amount.
Need to copy a DVD to your desktop? No problem, will be done in about 4 min.

P.S. that raid 0 testing review from anandtech.com has to be some of the most unbalanced testing I have seen in a long time. Now, I know why I visit that site 1 or 2 times a year.

Some of their benchmarking was how fast games launch, etc for pete's sake, using a stop watch.

Here is a quote from Anand's benchmarking...
Bottom line: RAID-0 arrays will win you just about any benchmark, but they'll deliver virtually nothing more than that for real world desktop performance. That's just the cold hard truth.

Where are the massive file copies? Where are the boot time benchmarks? Where are the program installation benchmarks? These are the real reasons people that want raid 0 setup raid 0. They are impatient. They are demanding.

Far Cry is a game. It has to startup its game engine, intialize hardware, decompress textures, etc. Disk access WOULD and SHOULD has very little difference

The same goes for UT2004

The same for the office benchmarks.

5 synthentic benchmarks and 2 benchmarks using a stopwatch? Get real.

Grade A material for sure.

Excuse me, but the Great Anand has spoken, I have to go stop the raid 0 config and run it in raid 1. Jeezzz.
