I currently have an Athlon64 XP 3200 / Radeon 9800SE / 1 Gig PC3200 ram / Pioneer A05 DVDR / 78 gig Raptor SATA / 370 GB (big mp3 catalog, plus i put my dvds on my machine) in storage

I recently put together a PVR with spare parts... XP1500+ / 160 GB / 512 RAM / 128 MB eVGA 5200 Videocard / Hauppauge 150

When I get the HDTV i plan on(within 2 months or so) I am thinking about converting the Athlon machine to an HDTV PVR with a second PVR card to do multi channel record or record and watch something else...and also a gaming rig

making the XP1500 machine a file server for my house

and then I'd build an email / IM / word processing machine, etc (aside from some minor gaming my main PC is overkill... if i had gaming on an HDTV i'd definately use it a lot!)... what do you guys suggest I build for that... I'm not looking to spend a lot and i already have a monitor a 17" flat panel
 
I wouldn't try to game and use HTPC on one box.
The high end gaming vid cards aren't the best for HT and vice versa.

You need the capture card obviously so that will limit your card choices.

Since you already have those boxes, I'd upgrade xp1500 to something like a 3100 and use it for htpc with the capture card and an AIW.

You can put a switch on the LCD to play games or use the HDTV from 2 seperate pcs both with digital (DVI) connections.
 
the mobo can only be upgraded to a 1500.. :eek: so i'd need a new mobo, and u know how that is, once i get started with that i redo the whole machine, i think im gunna game and htpc with that machine I already have XBOX so i wont be gaming on that machine all the time and it will primarily be a HTPC with some gaming....

what do u think is good to im/wp/browse?

Dude, you only need a pentium III 650 for that. Even less if you use an older version of office. Seriously.
Are you looking to just spend money or something? :)
 
I guess I'll wait for one of those amaz0r full system deals that CompCCCP or Staples or whatnot offer and use that for my main PC... anyone know of any :D?
