my first self-built computer is up and running

barton 2500
abit nf7-s
radeon 9800 pro
kingston hyperX pc3500
antec soho case w/ 300 watt psu
slk-900 hfs

pretty generic, but i'm happy with it.

running smoothly, playing unreal tourny with everything on set to normal not high.

i'm having a problem w/ neverwinter nights crashing my computer when i minimize it, but i think it might be a game thing

i'm due for a reformat soon, but i just thought you guys'd like to know that i'm up and running smoothly ;)

btw no benches, as i don't believe in turning everything down to get better numbers, and i'm going to save the overclocking for later when i need it...FYI

Why not high? Your system should be able to handle that with no problems at all. Mine does, and it's the same system, just different (and maybe more?) ram, and overclocked.

No need to turn everything down. I don't change a thing when I benchmark, I just run the defaults of the benchmark. By default, AA and AF are off in 3D Mark 03 and 3D Mark 2001SE. No benchmark hunting here.

How is that a generic system? For an AMD system, those specifications are pretty high quality for this precise time period.

You definitely should be able to push the performance more on that system. Although, perhaps the Corsair XMS series at PC3200 would have been a better choice because the Barton cored processors benefit from the tighter timings than on the HyperX PC3500.

by generic i mean that everyone has it, not that its subpar

its just choppy when i turn everything high. unreal2k4, not regular unreal btw.

anyhow my system hasn't been optimized at all. i can still get in and mess w/ ram timings (right?) and overclock a bit, i got good enough cooling to hit 3000 at least i figure, but i'm just going to hold of on all that

maybe after reformat in a week or so i'll have my friend come over and help me tweak my settings, right now i've just had my computer running at stock for a month to make sure nothing is busted. maybe i'll overclock it a bit, i'm sure the cpu is the only reason that its choppy...
