New Computer Shuts Down After 10 Seconds

So I built a new computer. The only thing from my old computer is 1 HD, 1 DVD-RW Drive and my Power Supply (I believe its an Antec from my Lian-Li case, i bought a new case also)

So heres my problem. When i first set everything up, the pc would reboot itself after like anywhere from 10-2 minutes. I looked at my wires, and reversed my IDE light/power/reset switch wires. Everything worked fine after that. So I installed XP and took a shower, came back and it was done, I did a quick security update, and left XP running after it reboot. Then I went to a meeting somewhere and got some dinnerr. I came home about 4 hours later and my PC was off. I pressed the ON button, nothing happened. I turned the switch off in the back and let it power down (the LAN light turns off) I turned it back on, after 10 seconds, it shut down. It repeated this every single time. I unplugged all my powered devices, still same thing. I then removed the memory, and the pc stayed on. Of course it didn't boot into anything it just kept beeping at me that I had no memory, but it never reboot itself. I tried different memory configs in different slots, but it would always power down after 10 seconds. I tried using some old memory from an older computer, and it still powered down.

Anybody have any idea what the problem might be? Could it be faulty ram you think? I dont think it would be since older ram did the same thing, of course, maybe the incompatibility made it shutdown and its shutting down with the new ram I got because its faulty. Or maybe the PSU? But if its the PSU why would it stay on without RAM on the motherboard. Or maybe the motherboard? Which im hoping its not since I will have to send away for a replacement (if its a PSU i can get that local, or if its memory i can "borrow" memory from Best Buy). And yes the video card does have power going to it for its fan. I didnt plug it in at first, didnt realize till the computer told me to hookup power to it, so i did that.

Anybody have any ideas? Here are the system specs:

I know you said it is on for about 10 seconds before turning off, but how far do you get in the boot cycle? Does the operating system start loading or do you not even get this far? My first guess is to check your heatsink and make sure it is on the right way and it is seated fully against your processor. I don't know if your processor could heat up that much in 10 seconds but you might as well rule that out first. Next, I would unhook everything except memory, processor, and video card and see if you can get it to stay on. Then add pieces back one by one. If it still shuts off after you take everything out, make sure you aren't shorting on anything. There might be an extra standoff somewhere that is shorting against your motherboard. Though that doesn't really explain why it worked at first and now it's not.
 
replace the ram and see if that fixes it. if you use the search tool you will find that bad ram can do practically anything...

Well he did say he tried some old ram. There is a possibility that the old ram is bad, too. OP: do you have another computer in which you could test the ram?
 
I had a similar problem to this when I tried installing XP on my current system. (Now using 2000 Prof again)

For me, XP would get all the way past its "Preparing network/Loading Settings" dialogue box, and then it would pop up a window for about 3 seconds telling me my virtual memory was too low and would then reboot itself. I had no clue what it was talking about. I uninstalled and reinstalled XP 4 times (yes I do have lots of patience) until it stopped giving me that error. I later uninstalled XP since it was buggin' out under my comp specs. 2000 is better for my current rig.
 
My monitor never turned on, lol. Well it might have been posting but my monitor takes a lil time to readjust itself to the bios screen, so by that time the pc already turned off. I never even see the posting with my LCD, if i had a crt sure, but crt wasnt available.

I went to best buy today to BORROW some stuff and went home. I took out my heatsink and cpu and made sure i had some compound on. I spread some a lil more evenly on the heatsink where it was up against the cpu then i put it back together. PC booted into windows. Im on my PC now for about 2 hours now installing stuff. So far the CPU is at 32c (89f) and im copying files now. I keep monitoring my temps. Im afraid of it dieing in an hour or so. But if it lasts till 5:30 when i leave for home im sure it'll be fine. Maybe it was the heatsink, not sure though, im still worried it'll go back to how it was.
