Hey I just bought some new parts for a new computer and using an existing HD I had...
athlonxp 2500+, nf7-s v2.0, thermaltake damier v case, thermaltake PSU...

Installation went fine, computer is able to boot... So I installed my HD, it has windows xp already on it, I was hoping it would boot... a Safe mode selection window popped up, and the the computer would just cycle no matter what options I pressed...
Figured windows xp didnt want to boot because of so many hardware changes... So i loaded up the HD onto a second computer as a secondary drive, backed up my files there, formatted it on there as well...

Installed a cdrom, popped in the windows xp cd, after its done loading drivers, it comes to the screen 'Press R to repair, Press Enter to enter setup' screen... I'm sure you guys know which one im talking about... Well no matter which option I select, again it reboots on me...

I tried switching the AGP video card I had for a PCI one, and also swapping memory...
Both doesn't seem to do anything...

Computer runs absolutely fine except for that one big major problem...
Also I disabled serial ata, firewire, onboard lan/audio on the nf7-s... still no luck..

Anyone have a clue?

Download this and make a bootable floppy disk or download this one and burn as a bootable cd, wipe your hard disk with zeros, repartition and reformat using the same utility.

Once you have the disk partitioned and formatted, just run setup and select the option "leave disc Intact (no changes)" or something, setup should run fine now :D

Good Luck

It's likely a HW and it's a PITA!!

Because Windows will restart itself by default and you cannot get into the Control Panel to change this since you're doing an install you realy can't do anything but try different HW configs. I'm having this problem with a few IBM X40s and might just junk them. :(

OldMX why are you reccomending lurker zero fill the drive?

Its soposed to reboot during XP install. About 3 times i believe.

if it is restarting in the middle of the installation, its a memprob, up the memory voltage in the bios.... "DIMM +1 Voltage"

Maybe i lost the point, but some times, when you have a hard disk with windows already installed on it, it wont allow setup in a new computer unless you wipe master boot records and any possible virus or corrupted fat from the old setup, zero wipe fixes the mbrs and leaves the disk in a factory state ready for a new partition and operating system

PD: Also never discard incorrect bios settings and or memory errors :D
