New Computer Purchase

After a long wait my computer finally arrived. I must say that it was worth the wait. The build quality of this machine is impeccable, and I am not easy to please. Right now, I can't say much other than it's up and running with NO problems at all. :D

The box arrived undamaged even though it was shipped UPS Ground. I do a great deal of shipping in the business I own, and I must say that it surprised me that the box didn't show more wear and tear. This fact is a credit to the UPS people in my area, and even if the box was damaged (as many of you have regrettably experienced first-hand) it would not have been a fault of VM. I do wish VM could offer everyone Next Day Air for a modest fee, but that may be financially unfeasable from a business point of view.

The packing was excellent. Two styrofoam inserts held the computer securely inside the box, while the accessories box acted as a quasi-insert itself.

I noticed no damage to the outside of the case at all. There were no rattles or loose pieces that I could find. The wiring job is top notch. Mind you, the only hard part I experienced setting the computer up was the crazy dongle for the Crossfire feature. I now understand why reviewers hate this "feature", and why ATI will no longer use it. Reminds me of my old Diamond Monster card from yesteryear.

All of my accessories hooked up fine without a hiccup. I will update when I have some time to explore more of this machine's performance.

Thank you VM for a wonderful buying experience :D

Well, this didn't take me long...

I was playing around trying to get my z-5500 speakers to work with the X-Fi card, and the computer locked up. I had to do a hard reboot, but Windows wouldn't come up. I'm not sure what happened. Could I have fried something when I was switching audio interconnects on the X-Fi card?

The computer itself is working fine; it just won't boot to windows.

System restore disc did nothing.

I called 24/7 tech support, and left a message. Will update when I hear back.

After doing some research on my own I think it's either fried memory/cpu or both. Hopefully, I'll get in touch with VM today.

Finally got through this morning after not being able to access tech support all weekend. I have no idea why, and after explaining the situation to the tech, Peter, he couldn't explain why either as he was on-call this weekend and should have received my call.

But all is well now. Pete arranged to have a 3rd party tech come out and see if both of them can fix the computer tomorrow morning. Will report back the result.

:D My APC UPS overloaded and shut down. As soon as the PC and monitor were moved off, and on to a surge protector the system ran fine. Note for future reference:

Do not put everything on one UPS. ;)

Man, believe it or not, I had that happen when I went SLI - it was just enough for my system with one video card, but after I upgraded it all went to hell.

Glad everything's ok. ;-)

What's funny, or not so funny, is that I just bought a 1500va APC unit, and you would think that would be enough; my, how we push our systems today. ;)

Theres something beautiful about a high-end Lian-li Case. I hope dust and fur balls aren't sucked in by your fans. I really wouldn't leave it on the floor, I would personally place it on my desk.

EDIT: Typo.

Good idea. May not be possible with my set-up, but will look into it.

It took downloading the 6.10 beta, but I finally got Company of Heroes running, and it is awesome. FPS is very hard to gauge in a game like this, but I'm getting about 20-30 on average.

Call of Duty 2, however, is just downright sick. With everything cranked to the max I am averaging between 60-80 FPS. Not too shabby. :D
