New Computer Problems

I recently purchased the following computer:
AMD - 64 3000+ Retail
Antec Super Lan Boy Case
Coolermax 350W PSU
Seagate 120 IDE ATA 7200 RPM HDD
AOpen AK89-Max
Geforce FX 5700 Ultra from BFG Technologies
OCZ Enhanced Latency 512

Now I am quite happy with myself for putting it all together and all. And as happy as I can be, problem struck! After installing Windows, and updating all the drivers for all my equipment and testing the memory with a mem-test, I poped in a game and after about a minute of playing the game crashed. Now to make sure it wasn't game specific, I installed a bunch of my other games and the same problem occured. The game crashed, and my computer shortly followed. Strangly only Halo PC is immune to this problem. However that is my only Dx9.0 game I have tried it on, the rest were Dx8/8.1 and one previous (starcraft/Brood War)

All the games were using the latest patch, and I reinstalled both the drivers and Directx9.0 several times to no avail.

Help, I wanna test the potential of this new machine!
 
Halo works, you say? Hmmm... if it weren't for that I might have said PSU, but I don't know what to think

Would the fact be that Halo is the only Dx9 game I used be something? I am kind of running out of ideas...


Also I am going to run a Prime95 RAM test... let us see if that is the problem.

Well a burn-in/memtest wouldnt hurt, and would start to narrow down problems.

Luckily the error is easily reproduced, so thats going to help out a lot getting it narrowed down.

have you tryed reinstalling windows since the first time? try setting bios settings to default. usually those are pretty safe.
 
I did run the Prime 95 Mem test with no fault to my memory, so that ain't the problem.

I guess I can try reinstalling Windows at some time.

I tried setting the BIOS to default, no avail.
 
DO you think that it is all possilbe that the CD-ROM is the cause of my problems? It does make a loud "whirr" noise when I use it.
