Ok decided to build my first computer, I like building things and computers, put two and two together eh. So I ordered the parts:

AMD Athlon XP3000
TDK AID+880 8X+/8X- DVD+/-RW Burner
Maxtor 200GB EIDE HD 7200/8MB/ATA-133
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 8X AGP 128MB DDR w/TV-Out
Coolmax 18" IDE Round Cable Translucent Black
Mach Speed V600DAP Via KT600 Socket A Motherboard
Ultra Copper Base Cooling Fan upto XP 3000+ CPU
PowerUp 400 Watt Dual Fan Power Supply
TurtleBeach Santa Cruz 5.1 Digital Sound Card
PQI 256MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz CL3

Figured it would be a decent rig for a gaming machine. Parts came yesterday I did what I knew of putting everything together, it was alot different then the other machine friend had built me a year ago so I had to go off of that + common knowledge of what goes to what.
Any how every thing looks smooth, turn it on, all fan go on, mobo fan, graphic card fan, and power supply fan, front lights go on, I heard HD going, but no picture.

I hook up different monitor, no picture, changed my graphics card to my old geforce 5200, didnt work. Thinkin I got the wrong IEI cables I switch that to the standard flat one's that came with the package. Still didnt work. I am stumped. I also tried to take out everything except the basic's, mobo, power supply, video card (doesnt have built in one), HD and cd/dvd player, still nothing when I put the Window's CD in.
If anyone could give me any advice or help that would be wonderful. Thanks in advance :)
By the way the picture's are terrible, I did what I could to help anyone help me, they are probably useless.

even a magnifying glass wouldnt help when viewing them pics

try a different ram slot.

unplug everything, i mean everything, off the motherboard except the hard drive , power cable, ram and the video card and see if that works.

Just did, didnt help, I changed hard drive's and power supply's, didnt help either, reallyhope it isnt my mobo

try booting the mobo, cpu, hsf, ram, and video card outside the case..could be shorting

Will try that in morning, my time is limited tonight due to work which is why this paint job is terrible ;)
But I cant figure out which goes where, I had it working until I looked at it and noticed it was wrong. The position and line they have it set as doesnt work.. Take a look;

Just seems like if i put the power led which is 3 holes on the top next to the power sw which is 2 holes thats 5 holes, there is only 4 prongs on the top row...

Well, two quick things:

make sure your clear CMOS jumper isn't set

Second, make sure you don't have a LED or something wired into the reset switch, because then the system is basically resetting all the time.

Ok will check those things, but whats a CMOS jumper
and also when I start it up, it's busy light is on consistantly.

I'm afraid I'll be in the same boat as you when I try to put mine together in about a week. good god I'm such a noob

Dissconnect all the lights/switches execpt for the power on switch. You may have one in the wrong place that is causeing your problem.

I've tried about every space for the power on switch, it wont even turn on now, I'm just bout to call it quits and buy a new mobo, i think tiger direct foobared it on the packaging :(

Found the problem, too embarrassed to say what it is but when I get the part I'll let you guys know if I have any more trouble. Thanks for replies and help everyone :)

same here... i have done some *really* dumb stuff. tell me yours and i will share mine.

I put the fan on without checkin if I had put the procc., they forgot to ship it and I didnt realize it so in other words I built the computer and freaked out because it wouldnt work when I didnt even have a proccessor in lollol! Lofapoo had a funny laughin at me about this, i felt like a idiot :D

roffles :D :p

I fried a mobo the other day cuz I took it out to try booting without the case, but I had a corner touching it...turned it on, saw smoke, CRAP :(

Good thing is it was a cheapo ECS one :)

Wow, I guess that would be kindof hard problem to figure out. I hope I don't do that, because the processor's going to be the last thing I buy too. I don't know if a zalman will fit so I got to see before I order an OEM processor. Them zalmans do look good though.

FYI - tigerdirect.com, the site that u used to order all ure parts is also the same place that i placed my order for my new pc's components. let me give u the short story...

the case came first, with a cracked acrylic side. called tiger direct immediately when it arrived and was told that another case would be sent and put on rush delivery. i proceeded to build my pc with the intention of replacing the removable side door with the cracked acrylic with the new case that was supposed to be rush delivered. put the entire thing together and turned her on... mobo didnt make any *beep* noise when i turned on the pc, the fan controller that came with my psu had a broken lcd screen, the toshiba dvd/cd burner tray didnt open when i pressed the open button, and the container that the cpu came in had the label already removed that read "once this label is removed, cpu can no longer be returned".

so i spent a little while on the phone with multiple tigerdirect sales rep's. one of which said he was going to reship all the broken components, a few of which i wanted to change, 1 being the ram which i wanted to upgrade from 2x256mb to 2x512mb, and 2 being the mobo from a K8V socket 754 to an A8V socket 939. so he told me that he was going to have to redo the entire order and was going to call me back in 5 minutes after he fixed it. waited 30 minutes, never got a call back. called tigerdirect again, spoke with another sales rep who fixed the order after putting me on hold for 21 minutes. so now im waiting for my delivery of everything that i didnt send back being my case, ram, mobo, cpu, psu, and dvd/cd burner drive.

oh and by the way, the sales rep that told me that he had reshipped my case "rush-order-delivery" never actually placed an order for it. so i called him on his extension 4 days ago, before i had found out that he never placed another order, to ask him for a tracking number, and i left him my number so he could call me back with it. he still has not returned my call.

all i can hope is that all my components come on monday, when i was told they would, not broken/defective and are in 1 piece.... i hate tiger direct.

try only connecting the Power SWITCH, forget the LED's and reset for now. Also liek someone else said try booting with only the bare essentials connected, RAM, video, and cpu. nuthing else, no hdd, no IDE cables, no cd-roms, etc.. if that doesnt wotrk try assembling the bare essentials outside of the case like on an anti-static bag. im in the same boat as you my fellow [H]mate, i cant figure wats wrong with mine either, no video at all. if all esle fails, RMA ur cpu and mobo!
