New computer for a friend.

My friend is buying a new computer very shortly. Just the computer too, no accessories like the mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc. His Budget is about 900-1000$ and wants to use this as a gaming computer. He has been thinking of getting a GTX 470 but im not sure of what else he had in mind. Any suggestions would be very helpful and also keep in mind that me and him are building the computer ourselves. We live in Canada and im sure he plans on overclocking it. He is also planning on buying it from a local store called Canada Computers. He is reusing his 23" monitor along with his mouse/keyboard.
