New computer failing :( Help!

Hi all,

I'm having problems with my new system that I built.

..::Hardware::..

Athlon 64 3000+
Thermaltake Venus 8
Abit Kv8 Pro
Kingston 512mb ddr 3200
BFG 6800 OC

..::Software::..

XP Pro SP2
Nvidia 66.81 drivers (have tried 61.77's as well)
Via 4.53 hyperion system drivers

I also have tried turning DEP off/ON in the boot.ini file

..::My Problem::..

I have been experiencing system reboots on rare occasions. I went into windows and unchecked automatically reboot on error. Now I am getting BSOD (blue screen of death).

Typically this is happening while playing a game (UT2004, Star Wars Galaxies). Originally I though the problem was related to DEP in SP2, as there have been many threads regarding this. I have shut off DEP, and even tried 2 different types of Nvidia drivers with no avail. The problem seems to happen just as I quit a game, but also has happened during memory intensive games.

So far I have recieved 2 types of BSOD

#1 page_fault_in_non_paged_area

#2 irql_not_less_than_equal

It seems to me like it is a memory issue with my Kingston 512mb ddr 3200. I ran memtest86 overnight last night, and when I woke up out of 20 or so tests, I received 2 errors. This concerns me. Is there any chance that it could be a CPU problem as well?

Sorry for the long post, but I am about to throw this system out the window :(

I was just having some reboot problems and it turned out to be the power supply. Try plugging a multimeter into one of your 5volt plugs and watch it while you're playing any games and see if the voltage drops too low. Could also be the video card. That BFG card is overlocked out of the box. You might want to check with BFG support since you said it usually reboots during game play. I guess it could be the memory but I'm not too familiar with diagnosing memory problems. Someone told me once that most rebooting problems usually come down to memory or power. (Don't know how true that is though.)
 
Hmm, I don't have access to a multimeter. It does not reboot on game launch. Typically its when exiting a game, or during really memory loading (new zones in star wars galaxies etc).

Would my memory be failing memtest if it was my power supply?

If its on game exit, its probably not your power supply, though it could be if there's something wrong with the plug into your vid card. Ram may be suspect then.
 
The ram is just over 30 days old so I cannot get a refund (bought it at newegg). However I can get an enhanced RMA from kingston (they ship me ram while i send mine back). Should I be affraid of using kingston memory?

According to Abits site, this memory is fully supported and tested for my kv8-pro motherboard.

well fully supported or not - the point is that the stick of ram you have is defective.. try running memtest86.
 
The guys have it right. I had a similar problem back in the UT 2002 days. It's your memory. I would contact Kingston and begin the RMA process immediately. As for your PSU, I got to say, I would be hesitant to continue using Allied. I am a big Sparkle, Fortron, and PCPC guy. Also that OCZ (but wow it's a lot of $$), or higher end Thermaltakes (at least 430 if not the 480). I have had power supplies go out before though. I would look to upgrade that whenever you got an extra 60-80 to drop. Hope it all works out man... Stay [H]ard... :cool: :cool: :cool:
