OK, my buddy wants to build a new rig. I would like some advice on building a new system with a $2000 limit including a 24 inch monitor. Thanks in advance.

if you are looking for parts suggestions, you want general hardware

if you are looking for prebuilts, id recommend anything from Velocity Micro, Maingear, or OverdrivePC :)

Thanks guys. I guess I should have been more specific with my previous thread. He wants an entire new system starting with the case and up. He said he'd like an intel proc. I guess I'm being too lazy to research the newest video, sound cards, etc. I figured I'd get some good replys here. Thanks again for your input.

One question still unanswered: What will he be doing with this system? Gaming? Media playback/editing? Strictly web/word? CAD Workstation?

A 24" LCD will run about $750, but budget $825 for tax and shipping. That leaves around $1000 before tax/shipping for the system. Does he need speakers? Keyboard/mouse? UPS?

Here's a build I posted for someone earlier, who also wanted a 24" LCD, but did not need alot of HDD space. He mainly needed a fast workstation (with no gaming):

$750 - Dell 24" 2407WFP Ultrasharp Flat Panel Monitor Wide
$315 - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz
$151 - Asus P5B-E Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express
$175 - G.Skill 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-800 F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ
$220 - WD Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000RPM SATA150 16MB Cache ($30MIR)
$106 - Corsair CMPSU-520HX 520W PSU
$45 - Cooler Master Centurion 534 RC-534-KKN2-GP
$40 - Scythe SCNJ-1100P 120mm CPU HSF
$40 - Freetech PX6200TD-128M GeForce 6200 128MB ($10MIR)
$30 - Samsung 18X DVD±R DVD Burner SH-S182D
=========
~$2000* after tax/shipping/rebates

*note: I didnt update any prices, so prices may be different, lol

Now, if he were gaming, I'd change things to fit an 8800GTX for the 24" LCD.
