First post to the forum

I'm building a new computer and have a few questions for the experts Ive built my own before but its been awhile

My old one has Windows XP home (upgrade) (SP2) and an 80 MB IDE Maxtor HD (no SATA on the motherboard)

My new one will have a WD SATA 250 MB HD
Abit KN9S
AMD A64 x2 4200 ....

what is the best way to get Windows onto the new SATA drive
Do I need to reinstall windows to the new drive? if so do I need to re register and will that be accepted as its a new computer (I forgot how thta works)


Id like to transfer my data from the IDE drive to the new SATA drive is that possible?and if so at what step should I do that during the build

Set boot order in bios to stat first, install OS from scratch, you will need to call MS to get it installed on the new computer without problems. After it's installed, plug in ide drive, load up, import drive information and copy data you want.
