Hey guys,
So I built my buddy a new system, and am having a problem
Following Hardware:

Asus M3N78 PRO ATX Motherboard
AMD Phenom 9500 2.20GHz
4gigs CORSAIR XMS2 DDR 800 (2x2 Sticks)
2 IDE HD's
Corsair 400W PSU
Sony Sata DVD Drive

Here is the problem,
I got it to boot the first time, and it just hung on the bios screen and turned off. Tried to turn it back on, and it wouldnt boot. Unplugged all drives and everything still didnt boot. I then cleared the RTC along with removing the CMOS Battery, and it booted fine. Thought everything was ok, plugged in the ram and it booted and said it didnt find a drive. Then plugged in the HDD's got it to boot, said it couldnt find a system disk, then shut off and would boot. I saw a check some error, but didnt get to write down the exact error. When the power button is pressed, the mobo light blinks 6 times, and goes back to being solid. I can get it to boot everything if i clear the cmos, and i have no idea what the problem is.
Thanks for any help.

check your voltages.. or set the bios to use the optimized default bios.. also make sure your boot order is correct.. and make sure you have your hdd's connected in the correct order with the IDE cable.. that your boot drive is the master drive..

That is a tough one....Lets see...
First and foremost, clear the CMOS once more. Then you need to find another hard drive to test they system. If you have the same problem with the second hard drive, it means there is something wrong with the bios itself. I would try looking on the manufacteur's website and look for a bios update or fix.

Other things you could try...
  • Try a single stick of RAM, different slots
  • Make sure the vDIMM is set properly
  • Make sure the BIOS supports the CPU and is up to date
  • Replace the CMOS battery
  • Re-seat the CPU
  • Get it working without any HDDs first
  • Run memtest for several passes
  • More in the basic troubleshooting guide...

After ive done some reading, i think it could be a bios issue. Im going to try and flash them to the newest version. Apparently asus has been having some problems with stuff like this. Is it better to go from each version ie 03-04-05-06-07, or can i just jump to 07 (07 is the newest bios off of their website)
