They're very comparable systems, in fact I'm shopping both of those system builders myself. I haven't decided yet so I'm anxious to see some of the responses here. The things I like about AvaDirect is that the individual components are top notch while Maingear has some 'generic' stuff like the PSU. Maingear however has a stellar reputation and you're assured of getting a solid system. AvaDirect seems very keen to challenge and appears to be up and coming at a sharper price.
I'm looking at very similar systems except I think I'm going all out for the Quad QX6700 and some more hard drive space. I think you might be cutting it a little close with a 750W PSU with the 8800GTX in SLI. It'll probably work fine, but it doesn't have a lot of room for future demands.

Order the main gear and opt for the free overclocking, order today and you should receive it by Jan 15th.

Looking at the slizone site there are several 750 watt psus that supposedly are certified for quad sli... My concern atm is not replacing the apc ups I currently have and if I go too beefy on psu end I will have to replace that.... I know it cuts it close on future needs power wise but I figure if I need to change parts it will be easier to afford a new ups and psu then.

I would go with Maingear also. I bought a computer from them three years ago and it still as good as new. What I like about them most is the configuration help they give you when you call. I needed much help when I got mine and instead of configuring it over the internet I did it by phone.

I think that might help you being that you are looking between two boutiqe shops. It wont hurt to talk to them especially if your spending a few grand.
