Hey, im a long time reader, first time poster to HardOcp. I currently have a p4 1.7 dell with 256mb of ram and a geforce 2. It is killing me, and I want to upgrade it. However, I cannot decide on whether to plunk 350 bucks on a new mobo, new ram, new graphics and case, or wait antoehr 2 months when I either build a desktop for college or get a new laptop. Im gonna enter the workforce, so ill have 300 dollars pretty fast, and I was planning on an msi pt880 mobo, geil 2x256 value ram, and an albatron 5700 pro. Any better deal on this, should I wait or go for it? Thanks. J.
 
If you're going to be getting a new computer anyways and use it as your main computer, I don't see much of a point in upgrading the Dell. Besides, you'd also have to buy a new power supply because of the Dell proprietary PSU.

My advice to you is to save for the new computer (whatever it may be). If you build one and don't want to buy a super expensive video card, get an ATi Radeon 9800 Pro; they're the best deal in video cards right now at $200 - 220 for the 128 MB version, and are still good for today's games (though yes, the new ones from ATi and Nvidia smoke it, but they're $500).
