Ok, so here's the deal.. I decided last night to buy some parts off my friend to upgrade my comp.. Here's what i had before i bought parts:
MSI KT3 ULTRA2 motherboard
AMD 1800+ proc
(2) 256mb pc2100 ram
60GB 7200rpm drive with windows on it
120GB 7200rpm drive
DVD burner
radeon 8500+LE
I had GENTOO linuxsetup on the 60gb drive as well(dual boot w/ grub).. if that matters
Anyway, I decided to buy these parts off my friend :
Case
ram - (2) mushkin 256MB cas2.5 pc2700 ddr
mobo - asus a7n8x deluxe
proc - barton 2500+ unlocked
Now, I installed everything in the new case(leaving out my old proc,mobo and ram)
Cleared CMOS, and i boot.
Plug in my headset and I hear what i think is "System failed memory test" and then the computer shuts off.. now, i say I THINK i hear that because it turns off before the entire sentence is completed.. but im pretty sure thats what it says.
Anyways, i figure it might be a problem with the ram.. so i swap out my new ram and in my old ram with no luck.. tried swapping everything to see if one of the parts he sold me was damaged.. no luck(and everything was working when he sold it to me so i doubt that's the case)
So then my friend calls me up and tells me that maybe my video card wont work in the system.. something about it being 4X. I dont know if that's the problem or not.. but that doesnt explain this "System memory check failed".
I'm all out of ideas, ive tried clearing the cmos(with the jumper and the battery) and ive tried re-seating the ram.. so i decide to take my HD's,vid card and heatsink and put them back into my old computer and fire that up.. It doesn't POST for me either.. great.
Anyways.. if anyone has any ideas or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.. thanks in advance.
