I just assembled my new comp together and it took me 4 hours :D . It was my first comp i ever built and im super proud. It's running very smooth and so far i havent encountered any major problems.
Just have a few questions to ask.
1. When installing a hs/f on a cpu, do i have to put Arctic silver on BOTH the hs + cpu? I put it on both.
2. My current temperature is 40 c , thats without ocing or under stress, is that alright?
3. when i boot up my comp, it says my memory freq. is 333mhz but i am useing pc3200 wich is 400mhz, what should i do?
4. How do i run my ram in dual channel mode?
5. when ocing my cpu, do i oc it as high as i can then see if its stable, or should i go up my 10-20mhz? im planning on doing 11x200 to acheive 3200+ speeds.
6. I installed the latest drivers for my video card and all other cards, what should i do next?

Any help would be very much apreciated,
Thanks.

1& 2 You only really need it on the core. I am surprised you are getting such good temps from that.

1. Just need to put the paste on the core.. it will cover when you put the sink on since it only contacts a small portion of the sink.

2. That is about right.. I think mine was around there with stock heatsink.

3. The frequency is being held back by your processor.. Native frequency is 333.. I have mine on 200FSB at the moment.

4. You need to have at least 2 dimms in order to run in dual mode.. one in slot 1 or 2.. the other in slot 3 or 4.. depending on motherboard

5. I just threw mine on 200FSB and messed with the multiplier. Never had the patience to find the max fsb. You should at least be able to do 200x10.

6. Windows update, virus scan if you have one, enjoy computer.

40C with stock heatsink? Damn. That's actually very good. Now why am I getting the 45-50's C with stock? I even used Arctic silver 5 and used it correctly (not too much/little). Spreaded on the core with a little blade and its all good. Why 50's... pshh..

i'm not using the stock hs/f but an coolermaster aero 7 wich is at max speed.
Should i take off the hs/f from the cpu and reaply the arctic silver? or is it ok if i leave it with both the cpu+hs/f having AS on it?

btw thanks for the great replys :)

Congratulations, I just build a similar system beginning of summer, my first too.

As for the artic silver, just leave it, it's fine. Unless there's too much and it's oozing, then clean up.
I used ceramique and the instructions said to do it to both core and sink, even though I got too big on the heatsink, but for AS5, as they said just the core. I don't think it really matters though.
