Alright, looking at the announcement from Intel about the new Celeron M processors today on the [H] front page, what I thought was a fairly obvious question has hit me. These new Celeron M processors are hitting now 1.5ghz with 1MB of cache onboard, 400mhz FSB...all the indicators of the older Pentium M processors of the same speeds.

I don't know if I'm missing something here, but if not...it seems like these new Celerons might be a pretty good deal...all the speed and features of Centrino technology with less markup.

It doesnt seem like having 512k cache has that big a hit either. The main problem is that they only sell them up to 1.5Ghz, correct? Now when you combine low clockspeeds with 512k cache now you have a problem. However, i'd say they're still good for a budget lappy.

People that purchased earlier Pentium M machines can how update their CPU microcode and have a hip new Celeron M. :p

Same chip. Exactly.

lol .

I think they would be better then the old Pentium-M's. If its based on the 90 nm process, the Celerons would have all the tweaks of Dothan minus the really large cahche. Plus, it would benifit from lower power comsumption and less latency.
