How are the new Catalyst drivers working out for you guys? I have had a few people tell me that small stuff like menu fading effects are causing problems and another person mentioning Windows Media Player being assed up after installation....anyone else?

New features...you like?

Performance? I got a healthy little boost from the install, how about you?

Ill run some benchmarks and post my results going from the CP 4.9 Cats to the CP 4.10's.

Oh and off-topic but I just now noticed your join date lol.

i'm gonna run some bench's with the omega drivers and then the regular 4.10 and 4.9's

THEN i'm gonna run my OC and see what happens. and do the same thing.

other than doom 3, what benchs are there?

The Catalyst Control Center doesn't work. It gives me that driver not found error. I was looking forward to AI too. There is a workaround I found on Rage3D, but I haven't had time to try it yet.

All I noticed was a mall performance boost and loss of WMV playback capability.
(fixed by unchecking the new WMV Acceleration option in Advanced Display Propeties)

I chose the non-Control Center version. Control center is laggy and
problematic, I'll try it out when they work out that "small" issue.

Do you have the latest version of the Microsoft .NET architecture? You need to have version 1.1 for the CCC to work.

I grabbed the Control Center version of 4.10 and found my refresh rates locked at 60hz, yuk. After numerous attempts to change the refresh seting on monitor/display/overrride and reinstalling my montior drivers, I grabbed the 4.10 with the Control Panel. Now I'm back to 85hz 1280x1024, ahhh.

I had one problem with these drivers. When I enabled Overdrive, and hit apply, my screen suddenly fills the screen with multi-colored lines across the screen. Can't see to do anything about it, and have to reset my computer.

how can ya enable AI in normal CP 4.10s? i couldn't find it so now i'm back to omega 4.10 beta

same happend to me after my solder points behind my 9700pro's power connecter melted for no apparent reason, so i had to rma now i have anew card, woo woo!.

outside of the specific issues listed in the release notes, are there any real benefits in upgrading to the latest drivers? i mean i just upgraded to 4.9 2 days ago and didn't notice a hair's difference at all in CS, warcraft3, older games. i don't play those games listed in the release notes so it doesn't apply to me nor do the problems of HDTV/etc. i just don't get upgrading to th latest version unless it really fixes somn specific that you're having problems with. so, why upgrade? are any of you running 4.5? 4.3? i'd like to delay driver upgrade as much as possible now cause it makes no sense to have the latest and greatest when it fixes problems that have nothing to do with me.

here's a test with the 9800 Pro.

Catalyst 4.10 vs Beta Catalyst 8.07

attachment.php

Catalyst 4.10's scored 2947
Beta 8.07's scored 3010

and if you notice, the 8.07's are a higher version than the 4.10's

you enabled overdrive on a 9700p? liar. it doesn't even have it on it with a 9700p

btw my scores in 01 and 03 are 15100 and 5350 with 8.07 and 14500 and 5130 with offical 4.10s

You can't. It does work but is at the default setting

AI does virtually nothing for my Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo. I don't see much change (good or bad) from 4.9.

Used the omega set, but this applies to the ati drivers also.
It instroduces a bug in richard burns rally with flashing trees :(
For far, that's 2 bugs in games since I bought my 8500 in jan of 01.

Concerning menu fading problems

this happens if the driver hasn't initialized itself properly, most of the time this can be cured by just rebooting and waiting a few minutes once windows loads up to give the driver time to initialize, in other words don't move your mouse until it flashes the screen and does its thing, if that doesn't work sometimes you have to re-install the driver, and if that doesn't work I think there is an option in a third party tweaker program that forces initialization

you can't, you need CCC to manipulate Catalyst AI slider

there are performance increases in cat 4.10 as the release notes state

it's automatically on?

in Catalyst 4.10 its automatically on the "Standard" (Low) setting in the driver

but you can't manipulate it, i.e. turn it off or set it to High without CCC installed

3DMark05 with system in sig:

Cat 4.8 w/ softmod - 1713
Cat 4.10 w/ softmod - 1784 (+4.145%)

Wheee. Warcraft III runs fine with either, so I could care less about 71 more 3DMarks.

Edit: Whoops, fixed. Thanks, t-readyroc.

I'm assuming you mean 4.8 & 4.10 ;)

I always use the Uninstall utility that is in the Program Files\ATI directory to fully uninstall the old drivers first, reboot and install the new ones. The 4.10 are working great for me, I'm running CS: Source @ 1280x1024 w/ 2xAA and 4xAF everything set to High and average over 70 FPS. Unreal Tournament 2004 is running with everything maxed out at the same resolution and playing smooth as butter. The best thing to come of these drivers for me was their fix for Doom III. Before this driver I had red and white dots all over the screen and the only solution I found online was to UNDERCLOCK my videocard. After installing the 4.10's I no longer see dots except in one of the first areas on level 1 with the two guys fixing something off the right and there is a bright orange glow and their clothes are orange, in the clothes I can see a few red dots but they are much harder to notice. At least I can play the game and get into it, before it was hard to get into the game because I felt like I was watching it through a storm. Gameplay in Doom also seems smoother, High Quality @ 1024x768 seems to be the sweet spot for now :( I plan on building a monster system when the PCI Express motherboards come for AMD and I move up to the 939 Pin and get whatever ATI or Nvidia comes out with after the x800 and 6800 series.

System Specs

AMD Athon 64 3200+
Asus K8V Deluxe (I think, at work right now)
1GB PC3200 DDR 2x 512MB Crucial
ATI Radeon 9800XT
Audigy 2

I benched using RTC and Doom3. No performance gain at all in either game. In fact while playing other games and doing normal stuff I can't tell one bit of difference between two drivers at all.

Everything is fine here except I can't figure out how to disable the CCC. It uses up a pretty good amount of ram too (50 MB)

I use the install that doesn't include the Catalyst Control Center, it has everything but that. I don't like it because it was crashing on me with the 3.9s and it does take up too much ram. You can find the download without CCC here or download directly from this link. Hope that helps :)

I use the Omega 2.5.90's. In my opinion thier the best drivers out. I just posted my benches under **Completely Unofficial Catalyst 4.10 benchies**

Eventually though everyone will have to use the CCC, when ATi stops releasing the Cats without it. Is there an option somewhere to disable it?

I couldnt get my refresh rate above 60hz, no matter what I set it to, after I installed the 4.10's with CCC. Stupid CCC...

On the video playback, had corruption (complete) in WMP 10, and had no video output with VLCPlayer or BSPlayer. Also had increased stuttering and introduced sound popping into CS:Source. Fixed by going to DNA 4.9's, as uninstalling 4.10's and reinstalling ATi 4.9's left Source with massive corruption issues. Good job ATi! Would you please warn us before you bend us over and fuck us in the ass?

Oh, I could give a fuck about Doom 3 benches. By the time that game matter, Quake 4 will be here and we'll all need new hardware anyway (Quake 4 will be what makes that game matter, lol).

When that day comes, they better have all the bugs in CCC fixed, or i'll send my 9800 Pro (Ultimate Edition  )out the door, and get myself an Nvidia card...

Catalyst Control Center slowed everything down on my computer, as well as crashing it a couple of times. I figured I'd stick to the classic control panel.

i didnt say i enabled overdrive, but i had the same thing with the colored lines all over my screen. smoke started to billow out from behind the power connector on my card.

i have a gigabyte x800xt pe, and cat 4.10 isnt working...

WMP messes up and shuts down, if i set the refresh rate above 60 i get some sort of brown screen with 2 horizontale blue stripes, if i try to lock the computer ( windows + L), the screen fills up with artifacts, if i try to shutdown/restart it crashes and the screen becomes black, any webpage (unless the code of **************************** i too hard for my graphics card to render) fills my screen with artifacts, and everything takes 5 minutes to load.

i tried reinstalling them 5 times ( they were re-downloaded from ATI.com at every time), with OR without ATI ccc, didnt change anything.

i tried totally uninstalling them and re-installing => same thing.

so instead of doing it the cheap way ( ie : rolling back drivers), i threw my x800xt pe out the window (5th floor) and stuck back in my good old 9600xt (which also has passif cooling : silent !) which seems to work fine with cat 4.10.

I didn't lose or gain any performance on my Radeon 9600 Pro.

I think I am going to put an x800 pro in my machine.

Wow, sounds like this new driver set kinda sucks. I have heard and seen video corruption issues with Divx 5.2.0 and XPSP2 with computers that have XD (execute disable)

I'll stick with 4.9 for now and wait to see how 4.11 runs.

no problems here. I don't think I like the shell part of the cataylst control center, wish I could disable that.
