Okay, so I built an sff System a little while ago in an sg03, and I was wondering what my options are in terms of upgrading to another case. I was hoping to get a case with a bit more portability and drive bays, to leave my options more open. I was looking at the Lian Li 350, bbut im not sure exactly how portable that case exactly is. Any Ideas? Thanks guys.
 
Well, portability vs more drives bays is gonna be hard. If you want a system to be easier to be toted around, your gonna have to sacrifice something. What are you looking in regards to easier portability, ask yourself:

Aluminum vs Steel for weight?

Built in carry handle?

How many drive bays do you really NEED?

What equipment is going in there now and for future upgrades?

Are you going to be OCing?

Whats your expectations in regards to cooling, especially OC?

I would rather ti be aluminum, but i dont care

A handle would be nice, but im scared of it breaking. I guess It would have to be a solid handle

4 gb of ram
1 500 gb hdd
1 dvd drive

Im sorry, im being really lazy and not typing out full blown specs, but I dont need too much space for everything. I just started thinking about this portability issue, because I have to take a flight next week and I want to bring my computer. And I have NO CLUE how to bring my computer and my monitor. Any Ideas on that as well?
 
Handle = Lanbox. Extremely sturdy handle.
About putting your computer on the airplane...
DON'T
TSA likes to rip open computers with absolutely no regard to property damage, then put a nice little sticker saying "this was checked by tsa for possible corrosive agents"
Freakign TSA blew the shit out of a brand new computer I bought working for my grandparents a couple of years ago.

I don't recommend doing this with a Lanbox. At least for Delta, the Lanbox' size is the carryon limit - and they can make you put it in checked baggage if they think it's too big. I had this happen, ended with a dead motherboard - a voltage regulator exploded upon powering on. Thankfully, I was able to RMA, and it's now sitting in my server. Had to buy a new board upon arriving for the person I was building the PC for.

If you want carryon, get a Shuttle. If you want a Lanbox anyway, well.. [shameless]my sig[/shameless]
 
For those wanting something easier to carry I suggest looking into the Geargrip harnesses. They make them for SFF and ATX towers. I use one on my SG03 and I like it. Only PC I take on a plane is a notebook but thats just me. For air travel portability the smaller the better. You have to give up something for that small size though. One idea is have it shipped ahead in advance if you can afford it. Make sure to get it insured.
 
why not look into one of my cases, their extremely durable(powder coated and i can stand on it i weigh 160lbs),1mm thick aluminum, light, can fit a decently powerful configuration. my specs are in my sig. + there small. I also get a lot of questions when ever i go somewhere. check them out www.killerrigs.com i haven't really updated the site lately with prices but i can sell you a barebone. which is a case, psu and a mobo. I brought a Midtower on an airplane to Massachusetts once as my Carry-on. Granted it didn't fit in overhead, and didn't fit in the seat underneath me, the Stewardess was nice enough to put it in the captain's closet for me going there and going back :).

If I had the case I have now it would have been easier (I now have cooler master 340).

I have alot of friends who have big cases that need to be considered luggage, so what they do is they find a luggage put the case inside the luggage, and pad up the luggage so the computer doesn't get damaged. I don't know how well that works out, but I can see TSA tearing the case apart, and not putting things back where they belong :)
 
I dont travel all that often, and I already love this more than any laptop ever. :D

All I was wondering about was if anyone has any advice about transporting this around honestly. And I was looking into an upgrade.

The QMicra v2 Was an option. But its SO EXPENSIVE.
 
wow those cases look EXCELLENT. have you ever thought about making a custom htpc case?
 
you could def put the case on its side and put non led fans for intake fans. the computer is quiet also.
