Nothing beats PC Power & Cooling and a Lian-Li case, but what he's looking at isn't all that bad, and PC Power & Cooling may not be in his budget. I know, I laughed when I saw the advert myself...lol

PC Power & Cooling - yes / Lian-Li - no (except their PC-V2000,but thats just personal opinion).
 
aight ill get it soon, finally a good reason to redo my cables. now i gotta figure out which fans to get.
 
Links Damnit! Oh and i want ones that are quiet, with lots of cfm (air flow). Also, I want some fans with blue neons built in.
 
um, did anyone else see the specs on that power supply? i wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Its got 10A on the 12v rail and says its 500w? wow.
 
No its not quite the same not bad though if it meets your requirements, I replaced all the cas fans in my Lian-Li 6070 with the Panaflo 1HA, I got them at frozencpu.com

You guys must be feeling feverish because it looks like most of you haven't read its power output.. My 300 watt enlight has way more power than the outputs listed there. That thing is barely capable of running a stripped down htpc. Not trying to slam anybody here but you guys know not the pure junk you are praising. Pick out your favorite case and check out some psu recommendations here.

To quote Ice Czar and Vertigo Acid's sig:

Even an antec case bundled with a smartpower psu is leaps and bounds better:

That psu would scare the Hell out of me. How much are you spending on a video card? What about the rest of the stuff? Can you afford the risk of total failure? Ask yourself these questions, then buy a decent brand psu.
 
These are the specs given for the PS that comes with the case....what 10A on the 12V rail ?
DC OUTPUT +3.3V +5V +12V -12V -5V +5VSB
28A 38A 25A 0.6A 0.6A 2A

granted I'm playing devil's advocate here, I firmly believe everyone should be using PC Power & Cooling PS's

I ALREADY HAVE A DAMN COMP READ THE OTHER POSTS. anyways i think ill be sticking with my current psu, since the damned thing WORKS. If you're telling me that for 10 dollars that 500 watt psu wont work, then ill belive you (the case is 90, the package is 100, go figure). now im gonna take a pic of the side of my powerlink psu... brb...

Regardless, do you want to risk it? I would not, but it's your rig, so do what you want.
 
ive had a 400 watt no name psu for over a year now, and ur telling me that an ultra psu is shit? god damnit.
 
Let me phrase what everyone intelligent on this subject has been saying.
Which can you afford better: 1. Spend $70 now and get a nice PSU that is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less likely to take out your system, or 2. Spend $10, have the PSU take out your whole system, and end up dropping $1000 into building a new one.

Seems like a no-brainer choice to me
 
or spend 70 dollars, get a case and tell u all that ur retards, since this noname psu has lasted me a year and nothing bad has happened. Thanx a whole lot i guess. Now why the fuck should i waste 70 bucks when i have a psu that works? tell me why now fucker.
 
I don't want to turn this into a flame war, and you can do whatever you like, but that doesn't change the fact that you are putting your hardware at risk by running that supply. I just told you why you should spend the money for a quality power supply: It's for the health of your other components. Also, just because it has lasted a year doesn't mean that it will continue to do so without the risks associated with cheap power supplies. Finally, I would advise against coming into our forum asking for advice, and then once it is given calling the person that is helping you a "fucker". That's generally a bad idea...
 
Dude the fact that just saying "oh ur psu is shit" and not telling me why is making me REALLY sceptical about u guys even knowing what ur talking about. I need some solid info, not just oh spend 70 bucks and ull be fine. I dont need to spend 70 bucks damnit.

This is a simple question, not meant in any way to flame you. Why did you start the thread, if you didn't want any opinions on the subject? I'm just curious.

I'm not sure that flaming us is a good way to start out, either. :rolleyes:
 
Do you know the difference in quality between a Kia and a Ford(or Chevy, depending on how you're inclinded...)?

Same thing with power supplies, you get what you pay for. The entire stability of your system rests on having clean, stable power, which is something that generic supplies can not provide adaquetly. And I know you're thinking, "it's only generic because you've never heard of it", and to some extent that is true, but if there is a cheap, high-quality supply this community will have at least heard of it. For example, Fortron would have been considered generic a few years ago, but since they've been shown to be of high quality for a great price, they aren't anymore. We don't bash your power supply for no reason, it's just a fact of business that for the price you are paying, the components aren't up to par.
 
aight next step to this is explaining to me why my 400 watt sh*t psu is still running this thing...

OK, and this is it...

Crummy board level components are used to make bargain power supplies. Because they are made with fewer quality controls and cheaper materials, they are more likely to fail. It's that simple. Will yours fail? We don't know. If you get a fancy one, will it fail? We don't know if it will fail, either. Your cheap one may last fifty years, and my Antec550 TruePower may fail right after I finish this post...

....but the odds are in my favor.
 
aight thanx for the help, either way, im not paying 70 bucks, lol. I'll spend around 50-60... ya now i gotta figure out what case to get and the accesories... I'm so sick of this icue case...
 
To put it simply, getting a no name psu is hit or miss, it could last, it could not....it depends how much you are willing to gamble. Many here, myself included are not willing to risk several thousand dollars of equippment to a questionable psu. That you have had good luck with your current psu is good, but it is still luck, also when or if you upgrade you have no idea if the psu will be able to handle its new config, remember most psu mfg's rate thier products unrealistically, whereas Fortron/Sparkle, PC Power & Cooling and such under-rate theirs ! Also the warrenty on these products and their tech support can't be beat. Many stability issues can be traced to poor psu performance, how many people have written that they had to replace their psu's when the upgraded to a 6800....did they think Nvidia was kiding. Yes there are those running a 6800 without a 510, but they probably have a good psu, some no-name 350 is not going to make the cut, niether will a no-name 500 Hey its your call....good luck And, please, (everyone) keep this forum clean (PG) Okay, gotta go.

Murphy's Law being what it is... He will take our advice and buy a top notch supply, like a PC Power & Cooling, and it will fail on day one, taking his rig with it, and it will cause a fire in his house as well. After he recovers from this disaster, he will put his no-name psu, which survived the fire with only smoke damage, into a new rig, and it will be handed down to his grandchildren who will use it to play Doom XXVII...and win.

It will be all our fault. :eek:

My new advice is: Don't pay any attention to us. We're just a bunch of geeks who live in our own little worlds. We buy fancy power supplies for the same reasons that fat cats buy Cadillacs. Lan parties are our country clubs, and impressing other guys who go there is our primary goal in life. ;)
