So I'm building a new comp soon and am wonderin on what vid card to get. Imma go the Ati road but i've noticed that the 3870 lags behind the 8800 in most tests. So im wonderin if ati is coming out with something new. So basically now id just buy a really cheap card to save up money for the new card when it drops or is it a good idea to just get a 3870 x2 or somethin now?

I'm guessing we'll see the R700 in the next 3-6 months. If that's too long get a 3870, they're cheap and they'll handle just about any game out there right now with the exception of maybe Crysis on HIGH.

I'd say it depends on your monitor resolution. If it's 1920 x 1200 or greater, you might consider the 3870x2, otherwise the 3870 should be fine. A lot of us would like to see benchmarks and a release date for the 4xxx cards.

I'm putting together a new comp soon based on an Intel chipset. Now is it still worth it to purchase a 3870x2 with the 9800gx2 and 9800gtx just around the corner? I'm scared that if I purchase a 3870x2 those new nvidia cards will dominate it.

Are there any ATI chipset makers that offer anything similar to EVGA's step-up?

If i should get the 3870x2 and ATI comes out with a new card in a few months can I crossfire the two?

:T

If your willing to overclock ( my sapphire 3870 does well), you can get a good steady 25 fps out of combat and 20 in combat. Or at least i do, all high, 1680x1050
