I currently have a Sapphire Radeon 5770 and I can tell it is aging. Got BL2 and went to play only to forget about the settings and have the card start acting up. Screen went to blue vertical bars, black screen too. Now I did look at the temps because I was able to get out of the screen and close the game. All the temps read normal. Catalyst Control Center said 28c on the card as did speed fan. I been itching to upgrade and I have my chance April 16 after I get back from Texas.

Looking at two cards right now but I want opinions.

PowerCooler TubroDuo R7 265 AXR7 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131572
EVGA GTX 750 TI with ACX cooler http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487028

I do plan on getting a new PSU if I can swing it later on.
My current rig is Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H, Phenom II x4 955 BE, 4gb Gskill, and 550w OCZ Fatality PSU.

Edit: Games I play are like Borderlands 2, Loadout, Skyrim. Budget is maxed out at 170. Even that is pushing it, only reason I was going that much was because the in game offers and I could sell that to others.

The R7 265 performs 15%+ better in most games, the GTX 750 TI still performs very well for the cost and power usage.

How about it being PowerCooler?

I guess I should ask which card maker to get? I only have dealt with Sapphire. I found an MSI card that has a longer warranty.

Do not buy from Newegg. Purchasing from newegg is risky, buy from anther vendor. My last purchase they sent a used damaged Nvidia card with no serial number. RMAd it immediately and shipped it back at my own expense. They refuse to replace or refund it because "it's damaged and doesn't have a serial number". Hey, that's how they sent it to me and why I returned it!
I am not the only (former) newegg customer with this kind of experience. Please learn from my mistake and save yourself several hundred dollars. The discounts they offer are not worth the risk.

That could happen from any retailer, I've heard people with bad experiences from Amazon, Newegg, and many other sites. I've never had any issues with RMA, or had to pay for it. Even if you do you can always do a chargeback on your credit card. If I ever get a package that's slightly damage, I'll take pictures immediately after getting it. Better safe than sorry.

Point taken but, what about brands? I have not bought a card in the last 4 years.

I bought a Gigabyte 750ti and it's pretty damn nice, runs super cool and quiet.
They now have a superclocked version out for the same price [hate when that happens].
The nice part is it's 7 inches long, ACX is 9.5 so if room is tight the Gigabyte is a better choice.

Be a douche to Newegg's customer service and you can get anything you want from them.
If you're in the right; then fight it.

If your budget is $170 buy used on the forums... people are selling 7950s with aftermarket cooling in that range. Many of them were likely mined with but make sure the seller has fully tested it for gaming before purchasing. If you want to pay a little less get either the 660 gtx, 270x, or 7870 which you can all find used under $140 opt for the 2gb versions.

My brother and I have both bought MSI cards for the last few years, and have had good experiences with them. He went from Sapphire to MSI, and hasn't had any drop in quality or any weirdness, either in gaming or mining (not overclocked though, so ymmv)

Powercolor isn't the best of brands to be honest so I would avoid them. MSI is a great brand and also the same price. Go with the MSI R7 265 OC http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...14127790.

The R7 265 is a much better choice for gaming. If you want a general use computer or HTPC then go with the GTX 750Ti due to it's low power consumption.

**Unless you get shipped a motherboard with bent CPU pins. Then it's a losing argument no matter what.

I actually received a motherboard that had bent CPU pins out of the box not caused by me. I called Newegg to RMA literally 10 minutes after opening it - Luckily it was only a 70$ motherboard and not a huge loss, but i'm still PO'ed at newegg to this day about that situation.

Fuckers. I always go amazon where possible. Especially for motherboards and monitors. Newegg is okay for items where it's a fairly sure bet that you won't have to return the item. But without exception amazon's CS and returns center is way way better than newegg.

I make videos of everything I unbox, new or otherwise. That way if anything is broken you can capture it on-screen immediately.
Same thing with ebay auctions especially.

Now that I think about it mobo boxes don't come shrink-wrapped so making proof won't do you any good...

I only do that when dealing with ebay or FS/T stuff, depending on who i'm dealing with.

If you're buying new, you can buy from amazon where possible and never, ever deal with bullshit. Their selection isn't as good (and I only buy from amazon, not 3rd party sellers) but their RMA and CS is literally painless. I can arrange an RMA pickup for return at THEIR COST in literally 15 seconds. Or I can print a prepaid return label. It's up to me. I never get hassled. I never get denied. It's easy and painfree.

Or if you buy from newegg you can't even return CPUs. Bent CPU pins on a mobo out of the box? You're fucked. Half of their new GPUs have a replacement only policy meaning no refund no matter what (not all GPUs, but many). At amazon, you can RMA everything for refund if there is a problem with the product. And they won't hassle you.

Newegg isn't on the same stratosphere in terms of customer service; amazon is just that much better. You simply don't have to bother with taking videos when buying from amazon. Which is how it should be. Now I still buy from newegg now and then, but certain categories I won't. Motherboards? Nope. Monitors? Hell no. If there's any possibility of a problem, I don't buy it from newegg. Their RMA system is designed to be anti consumer. Probably to frustrate the customer to an extent that they don't bother. They won't even take monitors most of the time for return even if there's a clear defect such as a dead pixel. Whereas this is never an issue at amazon.

Basically, I want to like newegg more. I mean I bought literally 10s of thousands of dollars of stuff from there since their inception, i've been a long time consumer. Yet, despite this, they screwed me on one return and that strikes me in a not so good way; newegg needs to catch up to amazon in terms of CS. I really feel stonewalled at times when I need to return stuff for good reasons, such as a monitor with a dead pixel. Yet i'll call newegg and speak to some drone who will tell me they can't do anything, and that I have to RMA to manufacturer. All of this is avoided by going to the better alternative at amazon. Which is unfortunate since newegg has such a great selection and good prices at times.

PowerCooler TubroDuo R7 265 AXR7. Comes overclocked, with mantle support, and 256-bit Memory.

Either way, your current power supply should be able to handle either card.

If he plays Skyrim and Borderlands 2, that makes the case for the 265 a bit tougher. The 265 performs well of course, but those games are generally better on nvidia hardware.

Now performance wise they're pretty close, but those games specifically do very well on NV hardware and you get physx in BL2 as well. If you use lower physx settings and replace the physx dll in the borderlands 2 directory, it doesn't create much of any performance hit either.

Meh, Amazon has shit sales.
Newegg sends me some incredibly tempting offers on a daily basis to pry money from my wallet, Amazon just puts up some CPU/SSD sales every now and then. Where are the good sales? GPU's would be nice.

And I've gotten refunds on "non-refundable" video cards just by asking.
I don't personally have a choice anyway, all of my money is tied up in Newegg gift cards.
