Last year I bought what I thought was a real sweet Gainward FX-5700 card to replace my aging GeForce 2 MX400. Boy was I wrong.

After I installed it and then installed the latest nVidia drivers for it, I proceeded to have all sorts of problems. It wasn't until I was on the phone with Gainwards broken english tech support for almost 2 hours, that I was told that I'm not suppose to use nVidia drivers for this card, that I'm suppose ta use Gainwards drivers as damages might result. WTF??? Apparently Gainward rewrites drivers. Is this even legal for them to do???

Needless ta say, I am never buying Gainward ever again!

Anyway... So now I'm on my replacement card, and for the past few months it has been blacking out at irregular intervals, and the only way to get it back is to reboot my system.

And I've decided to replace it with the GeForce 6800 AGP card. I've found 4 of the same card through Pricewatch (eVGA, BFG, XFX, Asus) and was wondering which one to get?

I've sorta been leaning toward Asus only because I'm a huge fan of their motherboards. (Except for my A7V880. For some reason my onboard Gigabit nic just doesn't work all the time, even after I've upgraded the bios fix, but this is another discusion for a later time.)

But I've also been hearing lots of good word about BFG and eVGA.

But if any of the other 3 are better with regards to performance, tech support, or the ability to use nVidias "website drivers" I'd like to hear your thoughts?

Thank you.

BFG and eVGA, cant go wrong with either one. I bought an eVGA only because it was cheaper. Otherwise, I would have gotten the BFG, for their lifetime warranty, and to support a company that goes out of its way to help its community. Heck, there are several BFG tech guys that roam this forum.

I owned a BFG and eVGA video cards. Both cards never gave me trouble since day one. I think eVGA follows reference design and BFG does some minor tweeking with their design. You won't be dissapointed with those two brands. I will buy those two brand for Nvidia and Sapphire (and Built by ATI) for ATI :)

eVGA has the step up program.
edit - this is the card that I bought, should be here today via fedex

its also a 6800 128 mb, and you can OC it yourself.

325mhz instead of 350mhz, who'll notice??? But that lifetime warranty from BFG though...

Also, eVGA doesn't link through to nVidia's driver site.

But it's a good card though.

Yeah, I know the one I'm looking at is over $200, I'm trying to keep it under $200. Ah Life!

Please note that the BGF you posted has no heatsinks covering any of that RAM. I would spend a little more and get a heatsink that covers everything.

I know. But of most of the cards that I've seen(held in my hands), the vid ram heatsinks cover and don't make any contact with the chips. I'd rather have air freely flowing over them, than have a pocket of dead air insulating them.

But we'll see once I get the card(s).

Also, did you click the button that says: "more images"???

Yes, I know the images of the card Monarch are displaying in the "more images" area are different than the one on the main page, which now has me a bit concerned.

Also of note is that the card I posted, the configuration isn't listed at the BFG site. Could these be web errors on Monarchs part???

The more I look at the BFG card, the more the offers appeal to me. Afrer more research, I found out that the pic on the Monarch site is wrong and the images in the "more images" area, are the right ones of the card.

It's actualy the plain & straight GeForce 6800 OC card that Monarch is selling.

Also, BFG has an old for new rebate form here: http://www.bfgtech.com/images/[BFG]6800OC_old for new_rebate.pdf

Basically they'll take ANY old vid card from any maker and give you $40 for it. Cool.
