I put my new C300 into my desktop (see sig for info) and I have a few questions. First one is about ACHI mode. I installed a fresh copy of Win7-64 on the C300 using IDE mode because I cannot use ACHI mode. I tried using just my hard drives, just the C300, and using both the SSD and the HD's. The result is the same - that is, when Windows boots up, it freezes when the four colored squares come together. So, my question is: do I need to have ACHI mode, or is IDE mode OK? BTW, the other choice in my bios is raid, and it did the same as ACHI mode. One other thing I tried was to load the drivers after installing Windows, then trying to change to ACHI mode, but it still freezes. One more thing - I have the C300 connected to SATA#1 port on my motherboard.

Why were you not able to use AHCI when you installed windows?

You can enable AHCI after installing windows with a registry hack. (google it)

1. Startup Regedit
2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlset / Services
3. Open msahci
4. In the right window pane, right click on "start" and select Modify
5. In the value Data field enter "0" and click "ok"
6. Exit "Regedit"
7. Reboot Rig and enter BIOS (hold "Delete" key while Booting) Change to AHCI mode. Save settings.
8. You should now be able to boot into Windows

Thanks, I will try that and report the results. I also wanted to ask about the performance. I ran AS SSD and got a final score of 285. Is that normal?
Can upload the screen shot if anyone is interested.

No 285 sounds like a sub total read or write score, not the total score. The total score should be in the 600 range.

thanks for the info. The reg hack seems to work. I re-ran the SSD test and got a 537. This is probably the correct result, yes? My motherboard only has SATA II, so may be why I didn't get into the 600's.

Another question - I read on the Crucial website about a screen freeze problem. I don't have the problem, but the reg hack to fix that also increased the speed - that is, increased benchmarks. Is that safe to do if I don't have the screen freeze problem?

In addition to the screen freeze reg hack question in my previous post, do I need to worry about trim or garbage collection if I am using Win 7-64?

TRIM is enabled by default on SSDs that are NOT in a RAID array. You will be fine.

What about this question?

I did the registry change and it got rid of my rare boot freeze sucessfully on both my Intel X-25M 160GBs and my Crucial 300 256GBs on two different rigs running Win 7 x64 Both in RAID 0 with the latest IRST WHQL
