Asus P8P67 Pro
Intel i7 2600K
Asus HD 6870
Corsair Vengeance 2X4GB DDR3-1866
Corsair Force Series 60GB
WD Green 2TB x 2
Corsair Graphite 600T
Corsair Professional HX650W
Corsair H70

Opinions?..

Can't fault any of the parts choices. The OCZ Vertex 2E is cheaper but then Corsair is known for better support.

Getting 1866 RAM doesn't provide any real world benefits over 1333 RAM. Save your money, get an $80 set of G.Skill (or Corsair since you seem to be heavy with their stuff) DDR3 1333MHz CL9 1.5v for the best compatibility with the Sandy Bridge memory controller.

The Crucial C300 64GB SSD will outperform the Corsair Force 60GB drive.

The Samsung F4 2TB is a faster drive than the WD Green 2TB.

I have no opinions on that case, good or bad.

I don't know why you need an HX650 for this build unless money is no object.

H70 is fine, but Sandy Bridge does very well on air.

The 6870 is a good card, but it all depends on your games and the price of your components. I got mine on a very good sale, otherwise I would have gone for a 6950 2GB.

Fill out the sticky if you want more detailed help. I don't know if you have a budget. I don't know what you're planning on doing with it. That 2600k may be a waste of money if all you're doing is gaming. If you live by a Microcenter you can get a 2500k and that motherboard for $350 I think. Basically, I can't provide a lot of help besides calling certain parts overpriced.

I agree with tonytnnt; please answer the sticky questions so we can tell you whether the build as a whole is worth the money.

1866 vs. 1333: I'm only paying an extra $8 getting 1866 over 1333

Crucial vs. Corsair SSD: I'm getting the Corsair for $30 less than the Crucial and the Crucial is out of stock at the retailer I'm buying from.

I already have the WD greens and got them under $70.00

I'm getting the HX650 for $109 and I really like the quality and modular cables plus the added power is there if/when I add or upgrade the video card(s).

Using the H70 because of how hot it gets here in the summer plug I think it's just badass.

Getting the 6870 1GB for $179.99 and the cheapest I could find a 6950 2GB for was $259.99

Another issue that I'm in Canada and we don't have a whole hell of a lot of choice on where to buy stuff...

I game, use CS5 as well as work with video quite a bit.

I have another build in mind which includes an i5 2500K, same board, 8GB Mushkin DDR-1333, same case, Silverstone Strider power supply same cooler and same SSD but I end up saving only $147.00

Canada, eh? That's something that we would have known sooner had you answer those sticky questions. Which stores are you buying your parts from?

Stick with DDR3 1333 RAM. Sandy Bridge doesn't benefit from faster RAM; in fact; some boards have encountered stability issues with some RAM running at faster than DDR3 1333 speeds. Additionally, with the i7-2600K's unlocked CPU multiplier, you won't be using the RAM to overclock the processor. Save that $8 towards something else, like the video card.

If you're running the Adobe products, you would benefit from using an Nvidia card. Most (if not all) of the CS5 programs can be offloaded via CUDA to run from the Nvidia GPU (at least a GTX 460 1GB or greater), which allows them to run faster than from the CPU. (Again, knowing what your overall budget is would help us in recommending alternative parts.) Since you game, which resolution do you game at? Which games do you play?

Retailer? Most likely ++++, Direct Canada or NewEgg Canada...

I want to keep this thing around $1450... I guess I'm not allowed to say the name of a certain well know CNIX retailer...

I've read a lot of reviews and I've looked at a lot of options saving 5 bucks here, 10 or 15 bucks here and bringing the whole build down by $150
I end up with an i5 2500K over an i7 2600K, a power supply that doesn't perform nearly as well, and a few other products from manufacturers that seem to be a shit show should I ever need to RMA them...

All that I'm telling you to replace are the video card and the memory, and I used my earlier post to explain why. Are you telling me that my recommendations would lead to the "shit show" that you're fearing?

I'm all ears. Drop some exact parts that you think would be a better match and I'm all over it. I appreciate any and all input.

Corsair, G.Skill, and Mushkin make DDR3 1333 kits that run at 1.5V. Even a "value" kit would work fine. I was dissuading you from the Corsair Vengeance model because of its speed, not its price.

For a video card for both gaming and Adobe, I recommend the GTX 460 1GB (non-SE); it should be priced around the same as (if not lower than) the HD 6870. However, you never answered my earlier question about your gaming. I'm currently operating under the assumption that you either are gaming at a 1680x1050 resolution or aren't playing any graphically-demanding games (like most MMOs and some RTSes).

If you can afford it, I recommend the GTX 560 Ti; otherwise, stick with the GTX 460 (1GB non-SE).

You have to decide yourself whether saving money with the HD 6870 is worth the loss of CUDA support for the Adobe CS5 programs.

As far as CS5 goes it does everything I (or rather the wife) needs it to do instantly or within two seconds on my Xeon E3110 @ 4GHz so I can only assume it will be even better on the 2600K...

G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9-24 $79.99

Mushkin Enhanced Silverline Stiletto 8GB 2X4GB PC3-10666 DDR3-1333 9-9-9-24 $79.99 ($69.99 after MIR)

I really wish OP would jsut answer the stick in its correct form... Anyhow with the needed parts for 1450 this is what I would do (while trying to kinda follow your original build)

ASUS P8P67 LE (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel P67 + G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3
Corsair Performance 3 Series CSSD-P3128GB2-BRKT 2.5" 128GB
EVGA 01G-P3-1561-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Corsair Graphite Series 600T
CORSAIR Hydro H70
Intel Core i5-2500K
CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-650HX

Based on the parts aboveI Changed the motherboard to one that does not support SLI/CF since your not getting a big enough PSU to support it. SSD is 2x the capacity & a newer generation & much faster. Alot can be cut here dropping to a smaller drive. Memory will perform every bit as well, but it ends up only being 57 bucks for that 8gb kit..

Total cost was 1341 canadian without shipping..

another change I would make is the case. Unless your really looking for a show piece the 600t is not worth the money. Dont get me wrong its a very good case. But it has a very large premium charged over other very good cases that will still hold everythign fine (like the haf 912 that can be made very quiet & to cool better with the addition of a couple 200mm fans that it has mounts for stock).

G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9-24 $79.99

Mushkin Enhanced Silverline Stiletto 8GB 2X4GB PC3-10666 DDR3-1333 9-9-9-24 $79.99 ($69.99 after MIR)

Either one will be fine.

you should like the items when you do that. That way we can tell which models your looking at since stuff like the gpu & ram will have multiple models that fit the vague description you left.

Also still why are you paying more for a mobo to support multiple GPU's when the rest of your system wont? Seems like you should either drop the mobo a notch or up the PSU a notch.

@bastage - Read post #8 for the OP's preferred retailer.

@Methodd - Which features do you need on your motherboard?

As far as the feature set of the motherboard goes...
I want a board by a well established company that isn't going to vanish before the warranty is up. I've used several Asus boards over the years and always been happy. The P8P67 Pro is a good fit in that it can handle a second video card in SLI & CF. It has Blue Tooth & IEEE 1394 on board. From what I've read it's also a very good overclocker for the i7 2600K.

Stupid question, but why are you concerned about CF/SLI? Are you planning on buying a new, larger resolution monitor soon?

I'm confident that the choices I have made will work out. Stay tuned...

I appreciate your input tiraides especially on switching to the 560 Ti!

@bastage - Read post #8 for the OP's preferred retailer.

No actually he listed 3 different retailers & whichever retailer it is it doesnt mean links wouldnt be helpfull. Even if they went to another retailer. In addition even the full model numbers would have served the purpose.
