New Build with SSD and RAID

Not sure if this is the right spot for this but....

I'm making the switch back to Intel with a new 2600K and ASUS P8Z68-V PRO. I also bought a OCZ 120GB Vertex 3 SSD.

Here's my plan...

Make the SSD my boot drive with the essentials installed. I also have 2 matching 1TB Western Digital hard drives. I would like turn them into a RAID 0 array and partition them into a couple of separate drives.

My plan is to install the SSD first, and get windows all patched up, my antivirus etc. installed. Then, add the 2 WD's in RAID 0.

Here's the question, do I set the BIOS to RAID from the beginning with just the SSD or can I set up the RAID array after the SSD is up and running.

Also, should I leave the windows swap file on the SSD or on the RAID?

If anyone can walk me through the best process to make this work, I'd appreciate it!
 
Set it to RAID mode, make your array before you install windows and just install Windows to the SSD. Don't create any partitions on the array volume until you've done your Windows install and setup up your AV, etc. This should avoid any surprises or later grief.
 
I've been told it doesn't matter later but I started with ACHI and switched to RAID later when I was ready to build that array. Yes, installed Win7 with only the SSD connected initially.

If you're building RAID with Intel RST it is straight forward once you've defined the array. I would suggest downloading the latest RST software from Intel prior to installing the driver, sometimes the version on vendor software disks can be old.

Just make sure you update the Vertex 3 to at least firmware 2.15 before you start the install or do anything else.
