Hey all and thanks for any and all help!

As the title suggest I am building a new computer, replacing my super old build that I done when I was about 15

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

Small photoshop usage.
Visual Studio: Fairly large solutions (Build times of 15 minutes+).
Gaming.
Web browsing.
It will need to last a while.
3DS Max 2010.
Lots of multitasking.

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

$3000 AUD (Since I am using Umart there is no tax and shipping I can just pick it up)

3) Where do you live?

Australia, Brisbane.

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.

CPU
Motherboard
Case
PSU
RAM
Video Card
SSD
HDD

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.

G5 Laser Mouse
G15 Keyboard
19" Monitor (Will be getting another in a few weeks, recommend one!)

6) Will you be overclocking?

Yes.

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?

19" and ??"

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

Within the next 2-3 weeks.

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.

Not really sure.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?

Unless that second monitor is gonna be a 24" to 30" monitor with a res of 1920x1200 and above, don't get the HD 5890 as it is total and utter overkill. Even at 1920x1200, the HD 5970 is a tad overkill unless you're a hardware gamer. And no buying a high-end card does not mean your system will be able to last that much longer to warrant such high costs. So drop the video card down to the HD 5850 or HD 5870.

Spend the extra $15 AUD for a mobo with six RAM slots for future RAM upgrades:
$259 - Asus P6T SE Intel X58 ATX Motherboard

Don't bother with Dominator RAM...ever. They're simply rarely worth the price. In fact, for not much more than that Dominator RAM set, you can get 12GB of this RAM (basically three sets):
$465 - 3 x Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 2 x 2Gb DDR3 1600 RAM.

Hey! Thanks for the info, I have made the changes to my build.

About the monitor, I will be getting a higher resolution and bigger monitor, it's just which one I ill get :p
I'll take the video card change into consideration.

Again thanks for the input!

I also would agree not to spend that much on GFX. GFX is one of the easiest and most often upgraded parts. I upgraded my 5 yr old build in sig 3 times over its lifetime and didn't pay as much as that GFX in your build. unless your going to be running at 2560 rez thats overkill, and even if you are it would probably be better to get dual 5850's or 5870's

yeah you definitely don't need a 5970 for your needs, a 5850 would probably be better for you. Other than that, that looks like a good build, and don't pick Powercolor as your vendor, go with XFX for the better warranty and customer service.

and i see you have a SSD in there, with the money you're saving by NOT buying the 5970, you could probably get the intel 80 GB SSD instead of that measly 30 GB OCZ

that might be another change i'd make if iw ere you

Wait, you don't have Windows 7 64bit? If not, waste of money to get 12 or even 8GB of RAM since the 32bit version can only use up to 3.5GB or so. Try to get the 64bit version. IIRC, all you have to do is contact MS for the 64bit disc and they'll send it to you for the price of shipping. You can use your Windows 7 32bit key for Windows 7 64bit.

Isn't XFX's warranty in Australia 2 years?

Oh yeah, should have mentioned I have access to both Win7 32 and 64 bit. (MSDNAA)

Change made to a 5870.

EDIT: I decided to get a new cd \ dvd \ bluray player:

$162.50 - LGE CH08LS10 Black Blue Ray HD Combo Retail

The F3 is faster than the 'cuda.12, so get that instead:
$105 - Samsung 1TB Spinpoint F3 SATA II 7200RPM 32M

Also, consider getting a 2nd 30GB SSD. Personally, I found one to be not as impressive, as you can see here: http://ssd.alphaq.org

For OC'ing, you'll want an aftermarket CPU HSF, like a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ or similar.

Also, 750W is overkill for a single GPU i7 system. Even if you go for the 650W HX Corsair, you'll still have plenty of room for upgrades. Keep the 750W HX if you plan on doing Crossfire, but I'd only suggest Crossfire if you were getting a 30" monitor. :p
