I am looking at building a new Gaming Rig with the following components:

Intel Q6600 CPU Quad Core
WD Raptor 150 GB HD (x2)
Mountain Mods Twice7 case
Asus P5K3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP Motherboard
Mitsumi 7 in 1 Media Drive
Corsair DDR3 2GB TWIN3X2048-1333C9
MS Vista Home Premium OEM ed
XFX 8800 GTX
Creative Sb X-fi Extremegamer

My question is: what CPU fan would you guys recommend for OC'ing this proc up to the 1333 FSB speeds the memory and mobo are capable of? I will blow my budget buying a 1333 FSB ready CPU. AM I missing anything in this assumption?

Also, is the speed increase of two Raptors (approx $360) really that big a jump over say two regaulr 16MB buffer, 7200 RPM drives (which are as cheap as $70 for 300GB each)?
 
I'd say you want to get yourself a thermalright ultra 120 extreme.

On the Hard drives, Raptors are the fastest out there...however you could get some of the 32mb cache drives with 4x storage for the same or lower prices.
 
What manufacturer makes some 32MB cache drivs? 7200 RPm NCQ in a RAID 0 might be almost as fast as Raptors.
 
Looks like a very good setup. Just make sure you get a G0 stepping Q6600. Also, what power supply are you looking at?

I believe the new Seagate 7200.11 series will have 32mb of cache, but for all intents and purposes, 16mb of cache should suffice.
 
I finished this build, and now have reached my final stable OC as well. I ended up with:

Intel Q6600 Quad Core OC'ed to 3.3 Ghz/core
Thermaltake V1 HS with Arctic Silver 5
ASUS Maximus Formula SE mobo
OCZ Reaper DDR2-1150 memory (4x1GB) running stable at 1200
XFX 8800 GTX
Seagate 7200.10 Barracuda's 7200 RPM 320MB HD x2 (RAID 0)
Cooler Master 850W PSU
Samsung Sh-203B DVD burner
Mountain Mods H2GO case
Vista Home Premium 32-bit

I just ordered the add'l 2GB RAM, and am wondering if there is some use I can make of the approx 800MB RAM Windows doesn't 'see'?

Everything I read says 64 bit Vista isn't quite ready for prime time. So I went with the 32 bit... Would I have to buy a whole new copy of Vista 64-bit if I did want to go to that?

This box is for gaming... older games as well as the latest and greatest.

Well you would have to buy another copy of Vista, but i would probably just keep everything as it is now. Then as long as you plan to keep the new hardware for some time as Vista x64 becomes more useful, then you can upgrade to the 64bit os

I may well do that up the road, but it sucks I will have to opay full price for a slightly diff version of the same OS.
