Got the upgrade bug again... The system will be used primarily for gaming @ 2560x1600 (Dell U3011) with as much eye candy as possible while maintaining 60+ fps. I'm aiming for high performance with a healthy overclock on the cpu, but I want to keep it quiet.

Intel Core i7 2600K - I don't mind the extra cost over the 2500K

I've never heard of SeaSonic (PSU).

I haven't shopped for high-end parts for a while so maybe they're considered a good company, I don't know.

It's like $130 though which seems high. I got my Corsair 750w modular PSU for about $120 before the rebate ($70 AR shipped). That was about 2 years ago.
 
SeaSonic is a good company. They make PSUs for other companies too (XFX, PC Power and Cooling, among others.)

Why not try to get unlockable 6950s?

I chose that particular model 6950 based on the "quiet & cool" reviews. I also thought that running the pair in crossfire would be more than enough for 2560x1600, so unlocking would be less important.
 
I don't need to know exactly where you live in the US, but do you live by a Fry's, Microcenter, or any other brick and mortar store with really good CPU deals?

Two 6950s will still be fast as hell so no reason to not try and stay quiet.

And have you considered watercooling? Like a Corsair H70? Or would you prefer to stay with air?
 
Unfortunately I don't live near any of the major b&m stores. I end up buying almost everything online.

I had an H50 for a while, if you want to count that as watercooling, but I ended up replacing it with the Venomous X. I like the almost zero maintenance of air cooling.
 
Power supply should be able to handle 2 6950s but you're looking exclusively at boards with 3 PCIe x16 slots so you might want to get something with more than 62 amps on the 12V rail.

I like the MSI P67A-GD80 or the ASUS P8P67 Deluxe. Lots of USB 3 ports and dual LAN ports (though the Asus gets bonus points for having at least one Intel LAN port.)

The rest of it looks pretty good. Mouse + keyboard upgrade? If you would like an entirely different take on how to spend $2500 I can throw together a build based on the sticky. I apologize for earlier because now I realize you really did have everything you wanted -- my bad.
 
Thanks for the input. I'm leaning toward the MSI board, but I don't think I can make a bad choice out of the three.

Oh and I completely forgot about the mouse and keyboard. I'll be keeping what I have.
