New Build, no printer in computer management device menu

Hooked up a USB enabled printer,
able to control properties and so on,
unable to access printer onboard settings , logs etc.
Printer isn't communicating with the mobo?
Not hooked up to the right usb?
I tried ethernet, I was unable to control the printer properties using that.
Hmmm,
this is some setting or port problem?

HP Z3100 44 inch photo printer
I had it all working,
all my 32 bit XP pro software supported all its functions.
Now win 7 pro is a stumbling block.
I have the latest driver and printer utility.
All the firmware is up to date.
All the connectors are working.
My printer shows up on the USB port list on a "virtual USB port"
on the printer hub on the USB Controller section of my device management.
Another thing is my hdd doesn't show in my computer folder in my account
I'm not properly configured somehow.
My desktop doesn't see my hdd or printer
