Ok so today my old pc's video card, which I beleive is posted in my sig, died.
and since my old pc is outdated im going to just buy a whole new pc.

Now, i havent really been keep up on the lastest in hardware but I built this on newegg.
What should i change?

Case: Silverstone TJ09
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163073
MotherBoard: ASUS Rampage III
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131666
PSU: Its between these two
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256024
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256057
CPU: Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115211
Video Card: Dual GTX 465
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121383
Ram: Patriot G Series ‘Sector 5’ Edition 4GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220436

A question i have about the TJ09 is, can i add two 120mms to the top or do i have to mod it?

anythin you feel i should change please let me know.

Though right off the bat, you might be choosing a bad time to build such a high-end gaming PC now.

I highly recommend waiting until Intel's Sandy Bridge CPUs are available on January 5th. It's only a few weeks away. Those Sandy Bridge CPUs will be faster clock for clock than Intel's current Core i7 lineup while being able to OC very high. In fact, it's been shown that a Sandy Bridge CPU can hit 5Ghz on AIR. If the price leak is true, you can get the i5 2500K for around $253. That'c cheaper than the i7 950 and you can get a significantly higher OC on top of the faster clock for clock speed.

So all in all, you're better off waiting until then for an expensive PC build.

In the meantime, just buy a cheap video card to tie you over.

Oh and yes you can add 120mm fans to the top without modification.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming, Photoshop, Ect
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
No more then 1800
3) Where do you live?
Michigan
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
All the main hardware, mayben not psu and harddrive
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I may resuse the psu and harddrive
6) Will you be overclocking?
no
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
20.1in, but will be up upgrading to 24in
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
asap
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? etc.
SLI, USI 3.0, and sata 6 would be nice
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
windows 7 32bit

OK so 1st I will comment on the original build listed above..

Case: that may be a good case, but its bloody hell expensive for what you get.
Mobo: I dig it, but you can find as good of motherbaords for less.
PSU: Depends entirely on the amount of juice required.
CPU: good choice
Video Card: I wouldnt spend that on the 465's. I would probably opt for a pair of 6870's as the market currently sits & then you could definitly get away with the smaller PSU so it would be cheaper & get you more video power.
Ram: any what way I slice it I cant see that ram as being a good buy, Not to mention you chose a tri channel motherboard & picked out dual channel ram..

Now If I was working with an 1800 dollar budget this is what I would get:

180 GIGABYTE GA-X58-USB3 LGA 1366 Intel X58 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
295 Intel Core i7-950
160 2x Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 6GB (3 x 2GB)
500 2x GIGABYTE GV-R687D5-1GD-B Radeon HD 6870 1GB
150 SILVERSTONE ST85F-P 850W
190 LIAN LI PC-P50WB Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
205 Corsair Force CSSD-F120GB2-BRKT 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
100 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
20 Sony Optiarc Black 24X DVD+R

1819.17 Shipped total.. & 50 in MIR..

Also you will notice I included another copy of win 7 except 64 bit. This is to fully take advantage of the large amount of ram & newer hardware. I am not sure if the 24" monitor was supposed to be in the budget or not, but it could easily be worked in by either dropping the SSD & reusing what you have now or changing to a 1156 or am3 setup.

ya, i know the case i want is overpriced, but it is a beautiful case.

and ya, i see now i can get basicly that same mother board for the a much cheaper price
but how about two of these gfx cards?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125343

as for that ram, is there any you could suggest?
and should i stay with 4gbs, or is there really a noticeable difference with have 6gbs?
i was looking at these
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145298

and im not including the 24" in this buy, this will be a future buy.

I still wouldn't get the GTX 465 cards since the small performance increase they offer does not offset the increased heat and power usage that it takes over the similar priced GTX 460 1GB card.

As for RAM, I'd get two of this RAM set and call it a day:
$55 - G.Skill Ripjaw Series F3-10666CL9S-4GBRL 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM

That'll still leave you with 4 extra RAM slots should you want to add more RAM later on.

yah, i think im going to go with that ram but im still having problems deciding on the video card.
also will i encounter any problems using my current hard drive? or should everything be fine, considering it has all the drivers for my current build installed on it.

Windows 7 is supposedly more resilient when being moved to a different set of hardware than where it was installed originally.

Still best practice though to reformat and reinstall the OS.

So just to be clear, you cannot wait till the Sandy Bridge CPUs are released until January 5th, correct?

If you cannot wait, here are my criticisms:
- Do not get the 300GB Velociraptor drive as it's barely that much faster than a WD 500GB Blue driv that's half the price.

- Go for the GTX 460 1GB SLI as the lower overall heat and power will offset the small performance increase the GTX 465 1GB SLI offers.

- Unless your PC is stupidly old, you can EASILY find a SATA DVD burner for the same price as that IDE drive. It'll allow for significantly easier cable management.

The IDE-less motherboard might be a problem too.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118039 is what you're looking for. Judging by how long you keep your PC, you might even consider a Blu-ray burner, the 'egg has them down to $95: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136181

If you're near metro Detroit in MI, you can save a few bucks on the i7 950 by hitting up Micro Center. $212 after tax.

Yes that's the HDD I'm talking about.

Yes that's a good GTX 460 card.

Yes two of those are enough for high settings with those two games.

are they enough or are they going to be able to run most games coming out for quite some time on high settings?
i never had this big of a monitor.

appreciate all the feed back danny.

and the 850w psu i posted should be plenty correct?

Yes.

Yes.

ok 2 more things

im being told i should go with 3 2gb ram sticks
which will take more advantage of the tri support then the 2 4gbs i selected

but i also heard ram with more volts then 1.65 can damage the i7s
is this true? because most the rams im looking at are 1.65v

i was also told to not go with the cavier blue and go with this

There's literally no noticeable real world performance difference between triple and dual channel RAM. Considering that 2 x 4GB has the better price to GB as well as performance ratio, no real reason to get triple channel RAM.

Yes the max RAM voltage for Core i7 CPUs is 1.65V. However the G.Skill RAM you bought is rated at 1.5V.

That Samsung drive is also a good choice.

Since SB is going to be 32nm, those overclocks are 1.45v. I know on the lga 1366 32nm that is well in to the danger threshold, the 5ghz overclocks I doubt will be mainstream. Maybe 4.2-4.4ghz is more realistic.

id' get a better video card. almost all games today are GPU limited.
GTX570 is now at newegg, and reasonably affordable.

eh i really dont want to spend 300 plus dollars on a signle video card, when im spending around the same price on Two 460s

What about the gtx 470?
would it be better to get one now, and then upgrade to sli once i purchase the 24"?
or go with the sli 460s now?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125331

or the 6870
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125347&Tpk=6870
but im now sure if id have to choose a different mother board for that?

so as i asked, dual 460s or a single 470/6870?

Sandybridge will be faster than that computer you are buying at the same price.
