- I'm kind of torn between the Silverstone TJ09 and the LIAN LI PC-V1000BPlus II (which I currently have). The TJ09 is larger and roomier which is why I am leaning towards that.
- What good modular power supplies do you guys recommend?
- What 10K hard drive would be recommended for the build?

I like the TJ-09, but hey, go with whatever YOU like, lol... its you're case/money.

Whats wrong with the PSU you chose? Its a pretty good one, from what I hear. Here are some other suggestions from JG himself: http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103

150GB Raptor, WD1500ADFD. Or, you could throw in a 4x drive RAID0 array instead, hehe.

Oh, don't waste your time on Dominators, nor DDR2-1066 RAM. The E6600 can reach 3.6Ghz on good air cooling, and 9 * 400 = 3.6Ghz, which is DDR2-800. You can't tell the difference between CL4 and CL5 in normal everyday usage, unless you're running benchmarks, so don't bother with lower latency if it comes at a price premium (and unless you need high overclockability, but you don't need that with the E6600). Go with Buffalo Firestix, Crucial Ballistix, or G.Skill HZ sticks if you want Micron D9XXX chips. Though, again, you don't really need them. All you need are some G.Skill 2GBNQ sticks.

Oh, I'd also go with the Tuniq Tower, Thermalright Ultra 120 (extreme or not), or Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B or infinity over the Zalman 9700.

The GTX alone is overkill for a 20" LCD. Unless you plan to get a bigger monitor, say a 24" or larger, then you really don't need the 680i SLI chipset board. As an upgrade path? nah... There will always be a single card solution that will outperform two older gen high end cards in SLI. You could always sell your current card to offset the cost.

To everyone running around thread to thread telling people that a GTX is overkill at 1600x1200:

What the hell?

My brand new machine, not OCd (I hated Vista so didn't run it long) driving that Samsung in my sig, 1600x1200, ran the Lost Planet demo in the 30 FPS range. Yes, it's unfinished, yes, I was running beta drivers and performance will hopefully get better, but 30 FPS? At 1600x1200? Doesn't sound like overkill to me. Sounds like anything less is a very poor decision right now unless you're planning to buy again in 6 months. And I'm not.

thanks for the suggestions enginurd!

- i think i might go with that raptor and have my 320gb for storage (give the 160gb to my dad).

- I was looking at the Thermalright Ultra 120 and it seemed to be highly recommended with the Scythe S-FLEX fan so that is probably the route i will take there.

- In terms of memory i'll probably stick to my original choice since they are $144 after a $60 MIR (New Egg link) from new egg and they will look nice in the case, don't mind spending the extra $$.

- In terms of the power supply I was interested in looking at modular choices for better cable management since the TJ09 is windowed. i came across an Enermax PSU (New Egg link) and a Thermaltake PSU (New Egg link) that both looked very nice , was wondering what kind of thoughts [H] had on these.

- as for the 8800GTX, i already have it so i'm not looking to sell it or anything. i will probably be upgrading my monitor over the summer as to take more advantage of this amazing card.

Better off with the PC Power and Cooling in my sig if you're willing to pay $200 for a PSU. It's non-modular, but it's a single 12v rail at 60A, so you don't have to worry about over-drawing on one rail as you would with a quad-rail PSU. That said, the ratings on both of those are just fine, but I would go with the Enermax of the two if you want modular.

I see what your saying. I have a PCP&C PSU right now and they are really top-notch, i wish they made modular so my decision would be super easy. I want the PCP&C but i don't want my case to look too messy.

With some zip-ties and a few minutes time you can make it look fine. I'll post a pic of the inside of my current system in a bit to prove the point.

Well, for most games, it is overkill. I'd imagine the newer games would take more advantage of it, though. So basically, it depends on what games you play.

As for the PSU, check out the suggestions at the jonnyguru forum that I linked to above.
