Time to consolidate some of my pc junk. My current setup is a bare metal Win2k8 box, Openfiler box, esxi box, Win2k3 box. I've planned to just go with a more powerful exsi box and use openfiler for storage. My existing fileserver is the 08 box with 8x1TB's. It connects to the openfiler box periodically to backup my important data through iSCSI. I like openfiler for my use and figured since I have a pair of 4Gb FC cards, I could connect my exsi box to openfiler that way. Here's what I'm thinking for my exsi box:

Supermicro X8SIL-F
2.66GHz x3450
Kingston 16GB RDIMM
Intel dual port nic
4Gb FC LSI

Also still in search of a 2u rackmount case. Leaning towards one of the Norco 2U cases. Any recommendations on the above setup or norco case?

Why a previous-gen motherboard/CPU? Have a look at some of the 1155 offerings...

Mainly because of the cost of maxing out the RAM on the X9SCM. I want to start with a 16GB kit without having to go with 4-4GB chips. I haven't found any affordable 16GB kits (2x8GB).
