I just put together a new system consisting of, a c2d E6600, evga 680i motherboard, 2gigs of Corsair Dominator ram, a evga 8800gts, and a brand new benq20"w lcd.

I'm having a couple of problems...

The machine posts ok, however there are thick green blocks and lines running down the middle of the display. The blocks remain when I go into the BIOS, but they are now a bluish color, (the same color as the text in the bios.) The lines go away when when Windows xp is loading, but there are series of dots threwout the screen even after it boots in to windows.

After installing the display drivers and rebooting, Windows goes in to 640*480 4bit color mode... (which looks really crappy on the screen.)
In the Device Manager, I'm getting a code 10 error on the 8800gts. (This device can not start)

I've tried switching from DVI cable to the vga cable, and same problem, just fuzzier.
I'm using the 97.92 drivers

I can say that I am 90% sure your video card is dead. I had the EXACT same thing you are talking about with my 7950gtko from EVGA. I had the lines going down the screen durring post as well. I guess there is a reason evga is cheap and has great customer service huh? Have you tried installing the drivers? Mine crashed every time I tried to install them. Anyways I ended up having to rma through EVGA.

Give them a call (heh I have them on speed dial now). They are 24-7

edit: ah I see you have installed the drivers.. missed that

Apparently it's a sign of bad memory on the card.. going to rma it back to newegg. frustrated.

edit: I ditched the 17" crt on my old working system for now.. LCD works fine. At least I have something to look at.

I had a similar problem but my screen was realy fuzy and had odd colours overing it ,try clearing cmos it worked for me.

Update: I swung by Staples and picked up a 7300 GS. And it appears to work ok. The 8800gts must be bad.
